One of the diseases that is a growing problem in the United States is diabetes. Diabetes is caused by an imbalance in how much insulin the body produces.

Insulin is critical to your body's ability to control the amount of blood sugar in your blood stream. There are three main types of diabetes.

The first one is called Type 1 and it is diagnosed in childhood. Type 1 is a growing problem among children, even though most people diagnosed with diabetes are still older than age 20.

Typically, someone diagnosed with Type 1 does not make enough insulin. The treatment for someone with Type 1 is daily injections of insulin.

The cause of Type 1 is not currently known, but it is suspected that the contraction of certain viruses, genetics, and autoimmune problems may contribute to the development of it. Type 2 diabetes is much more common than type 1.

The majority of people who contract diabetes are diagnosed with Type 2. While adults have generally been the only ones that are diagnosed with it, younger and younger people are being diagnosed.

In this case, the body does not make enough insulin to keep the blood sugar up because the body has a negative reaction to insulin. Unfortunately, this condition can hide so that many people do not know that they have it.

Type 2 diabetes is mostly caused by obesity and lack of exercise. The third type of diabetes is gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes only occurs during pregnancy and indicates that a woman is at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. A woman with gestational diabetes may have a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease as well.

While there is no cure for diabetes, there are many things that can relieve the symptoms and help prevent the development of other related conditions. These things may include medicine, diet, and exercise depending on your medical condition.

It is important to know how to treat high or low blood sugar, when and what to eat, how to take insulin, how to test and record blood glucose, and how to handle sick days. There are many other things that you should know as well in order to fully take care of yourself.

Diabetes can complicate surgery so it is important to talk to your surgeon and physician about anything in particular that you should do to prepare for surgery that will minimize risks. It is critical that your surgeon knows you have diabetes so that he or she can treat you correctly.

One of the most important things to keep track of is what you eat. Your doctor should be able to tell you what a balanced diet would look like for you.

Those with Type 1 diabetes need to eat at the same times every day and they need to eat the same things on a regular basis. Meanwhile, those with Type 2 diabetes will need to eat a well-balanced, but low-fat diet.

Exercise is also critical to improving your condition. It helps your body to regulate blood sugar levels, weight loss, high blood pressure, and many other things.

In addition, diabetics who exercise tend to develop fewer complications or suffer from other health threatening things such as a stroke. However, you should check with your doctor before you exercise to make sure that you are up to the program that you have planned.

In addition, you will need to make sure that you wear the appropriate supportive shoes for the activity. It is important to choose an exercise that you enjoy and can perform without threatening your health so that it is easier to stay motivated and develop a habit of exercising.

Exercising at the same time every day can also make it easier to develop a habit. Of course, you must make sure that you monitor your blood glucose levels before and after exercise so that you do not put yourself in danger.

You should make sure that you always have access to food during your workout in case your glucose levels fall too far. In addition, you should make sure that you have a diabetes identification card on you so that if you faint, medical emergency teams will be able to treat you accordingly.

A cell phone is also a good idea so that you can call for help if you start feeling unwell. It is particularly important to make sure that you drink extra fluids as well.

These drinks should not have any sugar in them as it could upset your glucose level balance. Be careful when you change your exercise intensity or duration as you may need to change you medication dose as well.

It is particularly important for those with diabetes to be very careful with their feet as they are more likely to develop problems. Taking proper care of yourself when you have diabetes is very important.
