There are many reasons that people eat, but what causes there eating to get out of control to the point where they gain weight and it causes them to be sick? What causes obesity in children and what can we do about it? I have heard people say that being overweight is a socioeconomic issue and I believe to a certain extent they are right.
I live in what would be considered a blue collar community. These people are hard working and live comfortable, but they are by no means upper class. I work in an area that is predominately white collar workers and there is a big difference in the size of the people that I see in both of these areas. I live among many people that are overweight and some are obese, while the people that are in the area that I work look healthy and much leaner.
This can be due to a number of things. Some would say it is expensive to eat healthy and it may cost more initially, but at the end of the day being obese will be much more expensive. Some would say that it could be education...that obese people just don't know what is healthy and what is not. I am not buying this scenario.
The internet, TV, radio and magazines are full of publications about health and things that can improve your health. Now, you will have to separate fact from fiction, but that is not that difficult. It is not easy to figure out why these 2 areas are so different, but they are. I think a lot of it has to do with stress. People all over the world experience stress, but we don't all deal with it the same.
I have to believe after everything I have seen that your class does have a certain amount to do with your size, but that is the same as saying that you are a certain way due to heredity. Just because a characteristic is inherent in you does not mean that you cannot change the outcome. In other words, just because you come from a family of big people does not mean that you have to be overweight.
You can break almost any mold, but it is up to you to want something different for yourself and break that mold. Getting started is often the most difficult part of making changes to your life.
