One of the common problems with long hair is split ends. Split ends can be difficult to prevent, but there are many things that can help the development of these damaged ends.

The official name of split ends is trichoptilosis. Trichoptilosis can be caused by many different things, which are sometimes preventable.

One of the causes of trichoptilosis is overuse of hot styling tools such as irons, hot curlers, blow dryers and hot combs. These things simple dry out the hair and leave it more prone to damage.

Overuse of chemicals can also contribute to this problem. Relaxers, perms, and hair coloring can all have negative impacts on hair.

A third thing that can contribute to this problem is using styling tools that are inadequate for the job. These things may include synthetic brushes or combs, brush rollers, and so forth which catch the hair and rip or pull it.

The environment in which you live could also have a negative impact on your hair. Overly hot, cold, or windy conditions can all damage your hair.

In addition, taking care of your hair less than you should, can also lead to damaged hair and split ends. Trying to take care of your hair in the wrong manner can also cause damage to it, such as detangling it in the wrong way.

Another thing that can cause damage is using too much shampoo or washing it too often. Low quality hair products or overuse or gels, waxes, and sprays can also cause damage to the ends.

There are many other things that can cause split ends as well. These things may include tangling, poor installation or removal of hair extensions, or hair decorations that pulls or rips the hair.

Touching your hair too often, or allowing it to come into contact with coarse materials such as pillow cases or shirts, can also cause damage. Unfortunately, split ends are a something that will not go away once they have developed.

The only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. There are a few ways you can disguise them so that they are not so noticeable.

This is one of the many myths surrounding split ends. No matter how much you try, you cannot repair a split end.

Although, you can glue the ends together temporarily, the ends are forever separated. Some people opt for gluing the ends together rather than getting a hair cut so that their hair looks healthy and long.

Celebrities are some of the top clients for this service as they strive to have healthy looking hair all of the time. However, the only way to have truly healthy looking hair is to cut off the split ends.

To disguise the split ends you have through a home treatment, you will want to begin by washing it with a moisturizing shampoo. Then, you will want to use a rinse out conditioner that is also very moisturizing.

Be sure to concentrate the conditioner on the ends of the hair. After you rinse the moisturizing conditioner out, you will want to rinse the ends of your hair in cold water.

This will help the hair maintain the moisture that it has picked up while in the shower. Then, pat your hair dry with a towel and put in a leave-in conditioner.

The best method for detangling your hair is to use a wide tooth comb. This kind of comb will not cause as many split ends as the other kinds of brushes.

After it is detangled, you will want to apply a product that will add shine to your hair. It is best to use a gel like substance that you can later the ends of your hair in.

When this is properly applied, use a round brush and blow drying to dry your hair. Try to encourage the split ends to dry straight so that they are more hidden.

When they are curly or frizzy, they stand out more. After your hair is dried, spray a heat protectant on your hair.

Then, you can use an iron to straighten your hair. When you hair is straight you will want to spray a light layer of hairspray that contains silk in it on your hair.

This will help the temporary binding on the split ends that you have applied to last throughout the day. While it is only temporary, this process can help you hid the split ends that often plague those with long hair.
