If someone has obstructive sleep apnea, they may very well need to use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine during the night when they sleep. This machine will blow air into the body through a mask and help the airway stay open while they breathe during sleep.

Most of the pressure comes out of their mouth, causing the mouth to remain open. They may experience slight headaches or sinus congestion in the morning upon waking. The construction is very portable and can act as an air generator, delivering the oxygen to the lungs at a very low pressure. This not only provides patients with a significant amount of oxygen, but also prevents the occurrences of stopped breathing. If a person needs a continuous flow of air when sleeping, they will often require the assistance of CPAP machines during the night, or when they sleep. The air supply for an individual during the restful hours of the night is essential for adequate oxygen intake.

Although both CPAP and BiPAP machines are proved helpful, it should not be forgotten that it is a palliative measure for temporary relief, not a permanent cure. It is an effective way to treat snoring and sleep apnea. Because CPAP machines are so a popular in treating these conditions, there are many different options and models to choose from. In the United States, CPAP machines are sold in a variety of different places, especially online and through medical supply stores

The risks of undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea can include and are not limited to heart attacks, strokes, impotence, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure and heart disease. In addition, obstructive sleep apnea can cause daytime sleepiness that can result in car wrecks, lost productivity and interpersonal relationship problems with the spouse and others. The APAP automatically and accurately tunes the pressurized air on a breath by breath basis. There is also the VPAP, which is for more severe cases of these conditions. Breathing machines range from several hundred dollars to $1,000 or more. Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans cover much of the cost. Moreover, this also the same for the CPAP, but it is designed for more extreme and severe cases in many sleeping disorders. People that have been diagnosed with sleep apnea can stop breathing for as much as 30 seconds at a time while they are sleeping. These stops can happen hundreds of times every night.
