Living with Asthma - 10 Things to Help You Deal With the Disease

If you have been living with asthma, you may be familiar with how this respiratory disease can disrupt your life and affect the quality of your life as well. In fact, asthma can be life-threatening, but you can however do things to help you deal with it. Read on for some tips that you might find useful.

1. Know your triggers. Asthma flare-ups can be triggered by different factors and in fact, different asthma sufferers have different triggers. If you are an asthma sufferer, take note of your trigger and make sure that you avoid these triggers at all cost. Pollen, dust, pollution, strong scents, food, extreme temperature, and many others can indeed become asthma triggers, so try to identify yours and find ways to avoid them as much as possible.

2. Reduce and manage stress. Stress is another factor that can make your asthma worse or flare up. To help you manage day-to-day stress, you can try managing it with massage, meditation, regular exercise, yoga and other practices that may help you manage stress.

3. Find a good exercise. A good aerobic exercise is another thing you can do if you are living with asthma. You can do simple walking early in the morning. However, do not overdo your exercise as too much exercise can also cause you to be too tired and that may also trigger asthma attack. Consult with your doctor as to the intensity and type of exercise that you can do to help you deal with asthma.

4. Maintain good sanitation around your living area. If you are living with asthma, you have to consider making your home as clean as possible. Make sure you do away with molds and moisture in your bathroom. Also make sure the bathroom and your kitchen are well aired and free from molds and moisture.

5. Avoid sprays. If you are an asthma sufferer, avoid insecticide and pesticide sprays that can irritate your airways. Use traps and other means that does not use chemicals to kill insects and pests at home if you really need it.

6. Add air filters to your air conditioners. Dust can be a trigger for asthma thus, when you turn your air-conditioning on, make sure that you have placed an air filter into it so that you can also do away with dust as well as dust mites that may circulate in the air.

7. Do breathing exercises. Learning how to breathe deeply can also help you deal with this disorder. Difficulty in breathing can be one of the effects of asthma attack and learning how to manage this difficulty can be of help as well.

8. Increase intake of foods rich in Vitamin A, B6, B12, Vitamin C, E and omega-3. Build your immune system with foods rich in these vitamins as these types of foods help a lot in dealing with asthma.

9. Stay away from secondhand smoke and smoking. They are indeed hazardous to your health and if you are living with asthma, it can also be a trigger for an attack.

10. Manage your pets at home. If you are an asthma sufferer, you may want to decide not to get pets at home but if you already have one, make sure that you keep the house clean and free especially from pet hairs that can trigger asthma as well.

Knowing how to manage asthma is a big help and a must for asthma sufferers. If you know how to manage this disorder, you can actually help yourself lessen the stress and difficulty of this respiratory disorder.
