There are many people that struggle finding a way to walk their dog on a consistent basis. When you are having a hard time finding the time or the energy to walk your dog you may want to familiarize yourself with the treadmill.
While you are taking the time to understand how you are going to walk your dog on a treadmill you do not want to discount the idea. There are a lot of people that think this is ridiculous until they actually give it a shot.
First, you want to make sure that you allow your dog to get used to the treadmill. Allow your dog to be around the treadmill when it is running so that you know how your dog is going to react to the treadmill.
When you are trying to get your dog familiar with the treadmill you have to make sure that you reward your dog when you are near the treadmill. Take the time to bring treats when you are trying to introduce your dog to the treadmill.
You should understand that your dog will probably need some verbal encouragement. After you can get your dog familiar with the treadmill you then want to coax your dog onto the treadmill when it is not running.
As soon as your dog gets on the treadmill you have to be sure that you reward them positively. You want them to have a positive reaction to the treadmill so that they are not scared of it or scared of the sounds that it will make.
After you get your dog on the treadmill a few times you can then try to get your dog on the treadmill after it is turned on. Do not coax your dog onto a treadmill that is not turned on and then turn it on while your dog is on the machine.
You want to be sure that you understand that this is going to be new and different for your dog. Your dog may be hesitant to get on the machine but you want to make sure that you remain calm so that your dog is able to remain calm.
The dog will be able to sense your emotion and your reaction. You have to make sure that you are taking the time to be sure that you have control of your emotion and your reaction to put your dog at ease.
When your dog is on the machine for the first time you have to make sure that you put the machine on the lowest possible speed. Your dog needs to understand how the machine is going to move and how they are supposed to react to the machine.
After a while you can then take the time to increase the speed. You want to make sure that your dog has enough practice walking on the machine before you let your dog start to run because you do not want your dog to be hurt.
Although your dog is an animal you want to be sure that you expose your dog to only a little bit of the treadmill at a time. You want to make sure that your dog is not scared to be on the machine because they feel that it is too hard.
Give your dog five to ten minutes of exposure on the machine and then stop the machine. When you are going through this process you should make sure that you allow your dog plenty of time, this is not a process that you want to rush.
You want to allow your dog enough time to get through the adjustment period. Give your dog all of the time that you need so that you know that your dog is not uncomfortable on the machine when you are trying to get him or her to exercise.
Finally, you want to make sure that you are taking the time to understand that the dog should be on the machine consistently. While you are taking the time to keep your dog on the treadmill you may have found a successful way to walk your dog.
No matter how familiar your dog gets with the treadmill you should always be there when you dog is on the machine. Do not turn on the machine and then leave your dog on the machine because it can be very dangerous.
Giving your dog the opportunity exercise is absolutely necessary.
