The most difficult thing to maintain is to keep fit and live healthy. With all the easy, one-step way of doing things people have become too lazy to choose a better lifestyle for themselves or for their families. Here are some basic, yet efficient ways to remain in good shape.
1. Cultivate your own pesticide-free vegetable and fruit garden. If you have an area where you can grow fruits and vegetables, it would be a good way of spending your time well. And aside from the benefit of harvesting your own produce, it is a way of exercising a muscle or two. You can even grow them on containers if you have limited space or when you do not have a backyard. Wouldn't it be self-rewarding if you know that your vegetables are chemical-free and giving you better nourishment? Having a garden is also a stress-releasing activity.
2. Take a walk instead of ride. Walking is a great form of exercise and it has been said over and over in print media, television and by a lot of experts. But somehow, still too many would not give it a try. In a fast-paced, technologically-advance world how many have the regular habit of walking? Nobody wants to take the stairs instead of the elevator. But you can modify things in a way that will make you more physically active when time is too limited. You may try taking the first nine floors by elevator and the last floor via the stairs. Now you have at least a few minutes of exercise. That would not be too much to do for someone physically stable and able.
3. Water is a must to life and energy. More than 80% of our body is water. And if you are heading for a workout or a simple exercise you have to take in a lot of it as you will be releasing much when you sweat it out and burn calories. It is not just a Universal solvent but a basic cleansing agent that no other liquid can outdo.
4. Rest of course, is as indispensable to health as good food. Some people neglect taking a good rest especially when they are in a hurry making a whole lot of money. But our physical system can only function more efficiently when it has had enough rest that it needs. Sleeping well and taking a nap can even boost your immune system too, the way health food does. It allows your muscles to relax and get relieved from the tension it has been through. More so, it prepares your body for the next task it will accomplish.
5. Practice the habit of reading food labels. A lot of fast food and junk food are advertised on television. And they have been very effective in convincing people to buy them. More consumers are tempted and prone to hitting the supermarkets and trying a new flavor of preservative-coated chips or a cake bar. The next time you are holding an item, know what is in it, whether sodium benzoate, glucose syrup, humectant, potassium sorbate or titanium dioxide. Many buyers do not know what these substances can do to the body in the long run. Take some time for a research or ask an expert just so you know what you are eating.
Health is not limited to food and exercise. It includes mental and emotional state. After working hard and earning a lot 8 hours a day, for a week, take a good breather with your family or friends. A day of laughter, food and fun with them on a picnic by the lake or a park will surely be worthy as it soothes a tired body and mind.
