Nursing jobs and medical careers offer one of the opportunities for employment and advancement that can be had. Health care occupies an enormous part of the economy about one sixth currently, and it is expected to gain an increasing share for the foreseeable future. While workers are needed throughout the field there is a particular need for nurses.

Nurse help people deal with illness, maintain health, and prevent the development of disease. They help to educate people and communities as well as advocate for patients and their families. They work with doctors developing treatments and conducting examinations. They also give medicine and provide care for those convalescing and in rehabilitation programs.

It is there responsibility to observe and report a patient's progress. They work in close collaboration with doctors in fast paced setting that presents constantly changing challenges. They must continuously update their knowledge regarding the latest advances in medicine. There are a number of different levels in the field, and each has its own requirements.

Licensed Practical Nurses or LPN's are supervised by doctors and registered nurses. They help patients receive treatments and give them medication. Many work opportunities for them can be found at hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, and through in home care. These positions require certification which is obtained by completing a course of study and passing the National Council Licensure Exam.

Registered Nurses have several of their own levels. Those with associate degrees gives graduate a chance to start caring for patients while pursuing an education. With a bachelor degree, they qualify for many positions in hospitals and clinics and can work in communities as health advocates. With advance degrees, they can serve as administrators of health care programs and manage many complex systems in health care.

Hospital employ the greatest number in this field. They will usually be designated to assist in one particular province of the facility such as pediatrics or emergency room care. Hospital care is expected to grow more slowly than other sectors of health care as the trend is towards early release and treatment on an outpatient basis. Rotation within hospitals to other units is also becoming more common, and this trend is expected to continue.

A growing number of procedures that were formerly conducted in hospital are now being done in clinics. Work opportunities here are therefore expected to grow more quickly than at hospitals. These facilities administer medicine, provide therapy, conduct examinations and lab work, and even perform minor surgery. They will often work in conjunction with hospitals in treatment plans.

Home health care is one of the fastest growing sectors in the health care field, and many nursing jobs and medical careers are now centered around it. Nurses in this area may help patients in recovery from illness, accidents, cancer, and childbirth. They generally work independently and may be responsible for the supervision of other aides brought into the home for assistance. Advances in technology have allowed more complicated medical tasks to be done in the home.
