In this country we want things as quickly as we can get it. We are a society that is used to instant gratification. We are poor at planning things out and sticking to the plan and wanting quick weight loss is just further evidence of this mindset. Weight loss can be done quickly, but is it a realistic expectation? For most people, the answer is...no.
Many people decide on a moment's notice that they need to lose 20 pounds and they want to do it in the next 30 days. If you are extremely motivated as well as sticking to a strict food and exercise program, this type of weight loss is possible, but not likely. A more realistic weight loss plan is a better idea. Putting a time constraint on your weight loss is also not a good idea. You can do everything right and if you have hit a weight loss plateau, you could go several weeks without losing a pound.
Health professionals recommend a one to two pound weight loss each week. Your chances of achieving this number and keeping it off are much better than setting a goal that is out of reach for the normal person. The best thing you can do to be successful at losing weight is to follow a weight loss plan that includes foods and activities that you can make part of a lifestyle.
Making small changes can lead to success over time. Substitute a healthy food for something in your diet that is less healthy. Add more water to you daily consumption of liquid. It is no secret that most people do not drink enough water. Add activity to your weekly schedule. Everyone can find one thing that they like. Find your activity and embrace it.
Losing weight is not a race. It can be said that slow and steady wins the race and when it comes to losing weight, this is so true. Being healthy is about making changes in your life that you can practice each and every week. The nice about having healthy behaviors is that if you decide to "fall off the wagon" on occasion, it is not the end of the world. So, you overate or you did not exercise this week. As long as that is the exception and not the norm, you will be fine. Losing weight and being healthy is about forming good habits one behavior at a time.
