As we have known throughout the years, hypertension and its complications is a potentially severe condition which may 'silently' kill anyone without even knowing they have the problem. Unhealthy lifestyle is a culprit that we are aware of but have been unconscious about.
It is important therefore, that we know what we have been taking into our body. More so, we have to think how we can be helped by some foods that lower high blood pressure and reduce our chances of even of cardiac problems.
There are excellent choices of food that significantly lower cholesterol levels, thereby reducing your chances of hypertension or high blood pressure. And most of these are obtainable our backyards. Here are a few:
- Water is a necessity. It is the most important yet most often neglected substance. It is your body's main survival 'stuff' that will make your systems function well.
- Spices and herbs like oregano, parsley, onion and garlic. They are not only food additives, flavor enhancers or preservatives. They have been noted to reduce high blood pressure.
- Fruits and nuts (e.g. cranberry, avocado, oranges, grapes, walnuts, almonds pistachios, etc.) that lower bad cholesterol will have hypertension back off from your system.
- Lean chicken and turkey meat will be of help. Remind yourself to remove the skin.
- Whole grains and oats are not only good for breakfast but in keeping a healthy heart.
- Fish (and fish oil) from fresh Salmon, Herring, Mackerel and Tuna are rich sources of Omega -3 fatty acids that help reduce your hypertensive tendencies. Omega-3 is a natural substance that reduces triglyceride levels in the blood therefore reducing the adverse effects of the substance on human health.
- Cereals that are 'low-sodium' varieties. You have to be more cautious with those foods that contain Sodium. You may however take some but always know your limits.
- Vegetable, olive and flaxseed oils
- Skimmed milk
Your diet should considerably be less in saturated trans-fat, salt, sweets, red meat and sugary beverages. Do not allow your chocolate-loving self to remain as such, or junk food to invade your grocery cart each time you buy. They will become a habit that is hard to break later and the chain of consuming such will make you pay more than you can think - though, you may allow yourself a little during those rare times.
Tame yourself to be a better consumer. Think about how it is going to affect you as a grandparent - that is, if you ever reach that phase. This will help during those times when age is impossible to resist. By that time you will understand better that you can't buy back those years of vibrant fun - the time when you were an impulsive 'eater'.
Whatever it is that will aid in your hopes of reducing harmful cholesterol levels, you have to remember that anything that is too much or too meager will cause some harm. To some extent the key is keeping everything in acceptable amounts and of course, learning how to keep a healthy diet and getting help from foods that lower high blood pressure.
