Having a fitness plan for keeping you healthy takes work, especially if you are beginning from the couch. It is something that takes time and many people don't start out liking to exercise. It is something for one reason or another they have finally realized is essential to their health and well being. In order to commit your workout as a lifestyle change you will have to schedule it into your week and make the necessary arrangements to make it happen.

If you need someone to babysit or to work less hours, it will be up to you make these things happen. Many people do not take these steps until they have health problems that begin to control their lives. Don't let this happen to you. It is as simple as getting off the couch and putting on a comfortable pair of athletic shoes and walking. One thing that helped me is walking outside in the park. The beauty that is found in the park makes it easier for me to do what I know is going to benefit me.

If you have a lot of weight to lose and have joint pain, a recumbent bike or water exercises may be a better fit for you in the beginning. The important thing is that you pick something and get started. There is no shortage of activities you can choose for aerobic exercise. Walking, running, swimming, bike riding, roller blading, jumping rope, aerobics class, stepping are only a few of your options. As you progress, hopefully, you will feel like trying new things and challenging yourself with more intense activities.

Getting moving is the first step, but you will have to build muscle within a short amount of time. This will require weight or resistance. You can use free weights, resistance bands and weight machines to accomplish this. Building muscle is important and is often a neglected part of a complete workout. Lean muscle mass will allow you to burn calories while at rest.

Stretching is the third part of physical fitness. You may not think this is important, but as a person begins to age it will be up to you to keep your mobility and stretching will help you do that. Being fit will help you live. It will give you energy and put balance in your life. You will begin to find that when you are not having one of your better days a walk or a workout can often lift your spirits.
