Keeping illnesses away is always far better off than seeking medical help because you already have them and urinary tract infection or UTI is just one of the thousands of common diseases and infections known to man. It has been affecting even children and it does affect much of the old-aged. Learning how to prevent UTI is something that everyone needs to keep in mind before it becomes too late and difficult to turn the condition around.

Get your regular dose of Vitamin C. It is a tremendously important vitamin because it plays a vital role in many bodily functions. Besides strengthening the blood vessels, it aids in the maintenance and repair of body tissues, as well as help in maintaining the body's resistance to infection. Black currant, pineapple, guava, oranges are only a few of those fruits which are rich in the vitamin. Other sources are spring greens, peppers, Brussels sprouts and broccoli. These are your allies in fighting off UTI as Vitamin C acidifies your urine therefore blocking potentially harmful bacteria that causes the infection.

Water always does the job. The human anatomy and its functions will always require water; about 80% of it is water. Processes such as digestion, excretion and all others depend much on water intake. And the body loses much of its vigor when the substance is deficient. The regular cycles happening in your body need it as much as nutrients. Especially when you are physically active, replenishing it often will benefit you. Much of its value lies in the fact that it can significantly help if you are looking for ways on how to prevent UTI.

When you feel the need to urinate, especially when you are into the habit of drinking sufficient amounts of water, don't hold it. You really have to let it go every time the urge is there. Take some time to find the nearest toilet rather than hold it until you reach home. Some people do it because they are stuck in traffic perhaps - it will only add up to bacteria to thrive in your urethra.

Avoid, or much better yet, get rid of coffee, caffeinated soda and alcohol. Caffeine and alcohol intake will only irritate your bladder. If you have had UTI, chances are, the condition will recur. Be cautious also of energy drinks. You need to now what these actually contain because they might as well have the same effects on your bladder.

Before and after sexual intercourse, partners should follow the habit of cleaning up to get rid of harmful bacteria. It is necessary for women to urinate and wipe from front to back to avoid germs getting into the urethra. Much better if you wash with water. And avoid frequent use of vaginal wash.Spermicidals as an option of contraception should also be avoided. They increase your risk of getting an infection.
Another simple way on how to prevent UTI is to always wear cotton or cotton-lined underwear. The material helps you keep fresh and dry. These are just a few of what you can do to keep yourself UTI-free. And a little practice of such habits will go a long way of helping you.
