The fact that nicotine is not good for an individual's body is not news to most of us. Although it is commonly understood that nicotine is not good for the body, it is important to understand that breaking any type of nicotine habit can be hard.

When you are attempting to break a nicotine habit it is important that you understand how you are going to be persistent. You should make sure that you take the time that you need to be sure that you are able to kick the habit successfully.

As you are learning how you are going to quit your addiction you want to make sure that you have family and friends that can help you. Be sure that you take the time that you need to form that support group.

First, you want to make sure that you write out your reasons for quitting. Although you may know that nicotine is not good for your body you should be sure that you write out exactly why you are going to stop.

Make quitting a personal matter. Make sure that you understand how you are going to make this process important and personal so that you can continually reference these reasons when things are getting hard.

Second, you should make sure that you understand that you may have more reasons to quit than just your health. When you have children around you often you may quit because you do not want to adversely affect their health.

You want to make sure that you have an incentive for long-term success to be sure that you are able to stick to your guns. There are going to be times when you want to go back to your habit and you have to be sure that you understand what your original reasons for quitting are.

Third, you should set a date for yourself to have completely kicked the habit. When you set this date you may want to consult with your doctor to ensure that you can consistently cut back on the nicotine consumption.

There are many people that will set dates for a long time out. In reality, you may be able to set your quitting date for only a week from the day that you decide to quit and you want to make sure that your quitting date is not too far out.

Fourth, while you are going through this process you want to make sure that you understand how important your support group will be. Taking the time that you need to sit down with friends and family and explain your goals to them can be very helpful.

When you have friends and family around you that will be consuming nicotine you may want to ask them not do it in front of you. Make sure that you are kind and polite when you ask them to abstain from consumption in front of you.

Try your hardest to not be judgmental towards those that are going to continue taking in nicotine. Make sure that you understand that this is a personal choice and you cannot force anyone to quit a habit with you.

This being said, if you have a friend that wants to quit you may be able to create a support group that is very beneficial. Taking the time to talk about the struggles that you are experiencing and how you overcome them may help both of you.

Fifth, when you take the time to quit you want to make sure that you are aware of when it will be the hardest. Make sure that you understand what is going to trigger your habit so that you can change your routines.

When you know that something is going to trigger your habit you should be sure that you understand how you are confronting that head on. If you know that you are used to smoking when you are done with a meal, start planning something to do right after you are done eating.

Changing up your routines and creating new habits can be very beneficial while you are trying to quit. Make sure that you keep yourself busy while you are learning to live without the consumption of nicotine.

When you stay busy, you may be able to distract yourself from the craving. As you plan out how you are going to quit you may find that you have the ability to kick your habit.
