Almost everyone is talking about losing weight and if you visit any drugstore or supplement shops, you will see heaps of products for weight loss. But what about the people who are naturally thin and who want to increase their body weight so that they can become heavier and bigger? Well, this article is written for these folks, for people who find it hard to increase their weight.

If you are naturally thin with a very high metabolism, you will know that gaining weight is not an easy thing to do because you are fighting against nature which had genetically programmed you to be thin. However, with persistent correct eating habits, lifestyle changes and weight training, skinny people can and do indeed increase their body weight substantially. It also requires a great deal of patience and discipline on your side without which, your efforts to gain weight will most likely be in vain.

It might sound like an overused cliche, the saying that to gain weight, you must do and think everything BIG. That will mean that you have to think big, eat big and lift big in order to be, well, big.

It is common sense that in order to gain weight, you must eat more calories than you use up for your daily activities. However, many thin people have a problem of eating big at their meal times and feel sick when eating too much at each meal. So the idea is to spread out your meals to ideally about six meals a day. Your meals should be your usual portion and not smaller meals even though you are eating more often and thus by doing just that, you have doubled your calorie consumption assuming that you normally eat three meals a day.

Now, it takes 3,500 calories to make up one pound of weight. So if you eat 2,000 calories a day, you are from now on eating an excess of another 2,000 calories a day and in actual calculation, you should be gaining a pound or so every two days. However, that may not be the case because of your higher metabolic rate. Still, with so many extra calories you are eating every day, it will not be very difficult to see progressive weight gain over the weeks and months to come.

With that, I suggest that your extra calories come from healthy food sources. You want to gain healthy weight such as lean muscles and not wobbly body fat which can be detrimental to your health later on. Furthermore, even though you are a natural calorie furnace now, as you get older, your metabolism will slow down and at that time, you may gain body fat and find it even harder to lose your unwanted weight.

To help you to put on weight even faster and to ensure that the weight you gain are from lean muscles and less body fat, take up a weight training program. If is better if you can hire a personal trainer to coach you. If you can't afford one, there are many programs you can find on the internet to help you to build muscles.

Why do I suggest that you hire a personal trainer or follow a proper workout program is that many people are wasting their time in the gyms by doing the wrong workouts, workouts that do not bring results and are also risking gym related injuries by lifting weight using the wrong forms. That is why getting expert advice is so important in helping you achieve your weight gain goals much faster with less heartache from not seeing results to physical aches from succumbing to injuries.
