One of the most dreaded appointments that we all make is that with the dentist. Why is that? Why do we all hate the dentist so much? There are many potential reasons that we could give. For example, we may say that we do not like the dentist because of the drill scares us, because it is painful or because we do not like the shots in the mouth. We also may say that we hate the dentist because of the laughing gas or the x-rays where they shove a large piece of something in our mouth to keep it open and we almost gag on it. However, all of this is our own fault.
When you make your next appointment with a Charlotte dentist, ask yourself these questions. Did I brush my teeth three times a day, or at least twice every day? Did I floss each time that I brushed? Do I schedule regular checkups with my dentist to make sure that no cavities are developing? Do I drink soda or eat lots of very sugary candy?
All of these questions could be the answer to why you hate the dentist. Most likely you have not done your job to take care of your teeth. Most people do not have adequate dental hygiene. This simple fact is what causes so many of us to require dental procedures that are not pleasant. If we did the things that we are suppose to do with our own dental hygiene and care our teeth would not require these painful and unpleasant procedures. Therefore, it is our own fault that we hate the dentist.
Of course, we could blame some of our hate for the dentist on our parents. Chances are your parents did not teach you as well as they should have about dental care. They likely required you to brush your teeth but rarely do parents have the fortitude to hold their kids accountable to a standard of dental care that they themselves cannot adhere to.
The next time that you see your Charlotte dentist, ask him or her for a comprehensive checklist of dental care that will help you to avoid the painful corrective procedures that are required because of your lack of great dental hygiene and care. If you will follow that perfectly and then hold your kids accountable to that as well your hate for the dentist will go away. What will also go away is a bad tradition passed from generation to generation of hating the dentist.
