There are many things that you can do to make sure that your recovery from surgery will be more comfortable when you are at home. Here are a few things that you may want to consider doing to ease your recovery.

Recovering from surgery may be a short or a long process. No matter whether it will be a short or long process for you, you will want to make sure that you do several things to make your recovery faster and more enjoyable.

The first thing that you will want to do is make sure that you have everything properly set up with your insurance company. Some insurance companies want to have various services and things pre-authorized in order to get them covered.

You do not want to find out during your recovery that something should have been pre-authorized, but since it was not pre-authorized in time, you will have to cover the entire cost. This can put a lot of stress on you when you should be relaxing and recovering.

The second thing that you will want to make sure you do is set everything up properly with your employer. He or she will need to know that you will not be able to work and for how long you will not be able to fulfill your responsibilities.

You should let him or her know as soon as you have a surgery date so that your employer can get a substitute or make other arrangements if needed. Be sure to ask your employer about short term disability benefits as well.

This may help you keep your job if you know that your recovery will take quite a long time. Sometimes your employer may ask you for a note from your doctor explaining that you need surgery to make sure that you are not simply taking a vacation.

Your employer does not have to know why you are having surgery, but a note from a doctor can verify that you need it. Before you return to work, it is a very good idea to make sure that you are up to it first.

Get a check-up appointment with your doctor to make sure that you are fully recovered. Your employer may also want a note from your doctor stating that you are fit to work so that you do not injure yourself on the job.

As a result, it is a good idea to get these notes before they are asked for and then to make a copy for yourself in case you need them for something else as well. After you have taken care of these things, you will want to make sure that you have everything you need for your recovery.

One of the things that you will want to make sure that you have on hand is a lot of soft foods that will be easy on your stomach. When you are recovering, you will probably want to spend as much time as you can lying down and resting, you will not want to have to run out to take care of the groceries when you are hungry.

In addition, you will probably not want to have to take care of bills, laundry, or any type of cleaning. It is best to have as many of these things done as possible before your scheduled date.

Another thing that will want to do is place any items that you think you will want for personal care and entertainment next to the area where you will be resting so that you will not have to make any extra trips around your home. You will also want to make sure that you have many planned quiet activities that you will be able to occupy yourself with while you recover.

Make sure that you rent any movies you want to watch, check out any books that you want to read, or have other supplies on hand to do other activities. You will probably want several of these activities because the painkillers that you may be on may make your attention span quite short.

Despite this, it is important to keep yourself occupied so that you will not get too bored. If you allow yourself to get too bored, your attitude and moral may go down.

This will probably be detrimental to your recovery and may even make it take longer. As you are recovering, you may want someone to help you.

During this time, you should not participate in any lifting, heavy house cleaning, or other strenuous activities. If a messy house bothers you, it is important to have someone else come over to clean it.

When the doctor says you are ready, you will want to begin participating in some light exercise. Light exercise can help you recover faster and it can help you rest easier and feel happier.

Walking is a good light form of exercise that you may want to begin with. However, you will want to be careful to make sure that you do not wear yourself out.

It will take time to recover and you will need to be patient with yourself. However, if you are prepared recovery can be much easier.
