If you have never heard of this before you may be wondering what it is and what it fixes and why it has to be done. This is a surgery that has to do with the heart. Anytime we hear of a surgery that is going to be done on a family member or friend that involves or is near the heart it nearly stops our own heart.

Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve repair is a surgery that is done to repair a weak, leaking Mitral valve. Essentially, this is a valve in the heart that is designed to let blood flow one direction only. If the mitral valve is weak, that means it is letting blood flow back in the wrong direction. This is an issue because it could cause some more serious issues in the future, such as congestive heart failure.

In essence, when the valve is not closing off, the effects of the heart pumping blood to the rest of the bosy is diminished a bit. By the valve not closing tightly it reduces the ability of the heart to push blood to all parts of the body. Of course, there are varying degrees of faulty valves and the faultier it is the more serious the problem could be and the more likely surgery will be needed.

Heart problems are nothing to mess around with. If you have been diagnosed with a mitral valve issue you should ask your doctor a lot of questions and then go home and study it out on the internet. Learn as much as you can from reputable sources so that you understand what the issues are. In addition, be sure to ask your doctor follow up questions as you have them.

If the doctor says that it is time to have surgery ask about having a minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery. If that is an option in your case you will be very grateful. When surgery is done this way you will have far less pain and a lot quicker recovery.

Even if you have never been diagnosed with a heart issue it is a good idea to ask your doctor for some tips on how to take care of your heart. Try your best to avoid any need for surgery on the heart of any kind. Not everything is something that you can prevent if there is a history in your family of heart disease, but certainly you can prevent some things.
