Are you one of those naturally thin people who cringe with frustration when you hear people talking about losing weight because no matter what you do, you just can't increase your weight? The high rate of obesity problems in the developed world means that there is a lot more emphasis on losing weight so much so that naturally skinny people like you are sort of forgotten.

There are many reasons why a person is underweight. Some people are naturally thin because of their naturally high metabolic rate while others may have underlying medical conditions. Aging can also be a factor because older people may lose the ability to smell and taste well and thus may lose appetite that way.

Although in theory, to gain weight is just a matter of consuming more calories than what you use up as energy for your daily activities, some thin people have so high metabolism that they still can't put on weight although they think that they are eating a lot. Are they really eating more than what is required to gain weight?

In order to determine that, get a calorie counter to calculate how many calories you are eating per day and also to determine many calories you will need to consume every day to gain additional weight. Since the goal is to increase your intake of calories every day; it does not matter whether you eat more meals or increase the size of the meals each day. If you can't take in a lot of food at your meal time, then you can try having several more meals and snacks a day. This is a pleasure that most people do not have the privilege to enjoy for the fear of putting on weight.

Do not stuff yourself with known foods that can make you fat, but are unhealthy like too much French fries and deep fried stuffs. You want to increase your weight healthily and not to get into other health problems by eating unhealthy foods. As such, your meals should be balanced with the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fat. Add a serving of starchy foods such as potatoes, white bread, porridge or pasta as high glycemic carbohydrate sources as these carbohydrates are known to assist weight gain although the weight you gain will most likely be body fat.

When you are in the process of gaining weight, you just do not want to gain weight from body fat that later may develop into other health complications besides making you look sloppy. So when you are gaining weight, try to gain healthy lean muscle weight as well.

You can do this by joining a gym and hire a personal trainer if you can afford one to help you to build muscles. Remember, your muscle is heavier than your fat and if you train right and supplement the right way, you will definitely gain some healthy muscle weight.

If hiring a personal trainer is beyond your budget, not to worry as there are many good muscle building programs you can find in the internet. The problem is that there are also many lousy programs out to scam your money. So do your due diligences before you get any one of them.

When you are on a weight training program, do supplement your meals with protein supplements. Not only will you get extra protein calories this way, you can also build muscles faster as the protein will fuel your muscle growth. However, do remember that the right exercises are very important for you to gain muscle weight. So seek professional advice. Yes, everyone can gain weight when it is done correctly and healthily.
