If you want to know how to get rid of period cramps then you are like most other women. This is one thing that can really be annoying and make you feel in a state on constant discomfort. Thankfully there are always things to be done which really make a big difference and offer you the relief that you need for issues of this kind.

You can apply heat to the area like your tummy or your lower back where you are feeling pain and discomfort. Use a hot compress which has been heated in the microwave or oven. If you cannot afford a conventional heat pack then you can apply a heated towel instead and it will have the same effect.

Having a diet that is healthy and balanced is also good in this regard as it means your body will be more balanced and it will be less likely that you will encounter notable highs and lows. Although junk food may seem like a tasty treat it can actually do the opposite of comforting you and is detrimental for your general health and well being.

You are better off having foods which make it less likely you will be troubled by bloating and make you feel lazy. Instead aim for a balance of fruits and vegetables, oily fish and lean chicken or turkey. Stay away from high fat or rich meat based options which are also higher in cholesterol and more difficult to digest.

Stay on your toes and this will help to distract you from any pain you are experiencing. Exercise releases what are known as happy hormones also known as endorphins and these help you brain to overcome any discomfort you may be experiencing. Yoga and Pilates are good ways of exercising and you can vary the intensity depending on your energy levels.

In addition other forms of stretching can bring relief to affected areas. In particular lower back stretches and gentle pelvic floor exercises reduce the amount of pressure you feel around the abdomen and you should try to do a few of these when symptoms get worse.

If you are ready to take it up a gear then try jogging or brisk walking both of which offer you a good opportunity to do some light cardiovascular exercise which is a good way in which you can stay at a reasonable weight and maintain a heart that is healthy.

Making sure that the body is properly hydrated also helps. Drink a lot of plain water along with juices and green tea that will promote a healthier digestion and assist the body in removing harmful toxins. Juices and teas contain anti oxidants and a range of vitamins and minerals that are essential to your well being.

Avoid substances such as alcohol and sugar rich carbonated soft drinks as these can do the opposite and leave you dehydrated and bloated. Any drinks with added sugar need to be avoided particularly energy drinks which cause an imbalance of sugars.
