There are many different things that you will want to make sure that you do during your surgery preparation period. You will probably want to make sure that you take the opportunity to visit the medical center and the operating room that you will be staying at.
You may also want to interview your surgeon to make sure that you will be receiving the beset health care possible. Another thing that you will probably want to do is take a little time to find several things that you can do following surgery when you are recovering.
It is important to take care of these things before you go in for surgery so that you do not try to go out to the library or to Redbox to get books or movies when you realize that you are bored stiff. There are a variety of things that you can do while you are recovering.
It is very important to realize this and to focus on the things you can do rather than things you cannot do when you are recovering. A positive attitude can help you recover faster.
One thing that you may want to do if you can sit up and use your arms is learn how to play an instrument. The guitar can be a nice, relaxing instrument to play.
Or if you cannot do this, you may want to have other people play or sing for you. Live music can be very relaxing and enjoyable.
Another thing that you may want to do is watch old movies. Old movies are often classics, but they are often slow moving as well.
They may not be too overwhelming as you are trying to recover and under pain medication. In addition, many of them have very witty dialogue that is very enjoyable to listen to.
You can often check out these older movies from the library so that you do not need to spend money to do this activity. In addition, you can often keep these movies longer than you can if you were to get it from a video store.
Of course, you may also enjoy playing an Xbox, Nintendo, Gameboy, Sony PSP, or other electronic game while you are recovering. If you are tired of the games you currently have, you may want to invest in a new one right before you go in for surgery so that you have something new to entertain yourself with.
There are other types of handheld games as well that you may enjoy playing as well. Scrabble, Tetris, Simon Says, and many other games are all available in handheld versions.
These games are great because you can play against the computer and you do not need someone to play with. Of course, you can often go online and play with others across the internet as well.
While you are recovering, you may also want to take it upon yourself to read or re-read an entire book series such as Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings.
These series can be very entertaining and they can capture your attention for hours and hours. Of course, you will want to make sure that the light in your recovery room is good so that you do not strain your eyes.
Another series you may enjoy if you have not read it is The Narnia Chronicles by C.S. Lewis. Or you could also challenge yourself by reading the entire New York Times.
It can also be a good idea, if you are able, to go outside and sit on the porch for a while every evening. Some fresh air can help keep your spirits up so that you may recover faster.
You may also want to find others online who are also recovering from the same surgery you are. Sharing your experiences with each other can be uplifting as you can encourage each other through the recovery period.
You may be able to make some new friends by the time you are back to your normal life. Some people also enjoy getting some free therapy online as it helps motivate them to look on the positive side while they are recovering.
Another thing you can do is talk to the friends that you already have through one of the many chat applications that are available online. This way you may be able to keep up on the news so that you do not feel left out of the loop while you strive to get better.
Another thing you can do is start a blog or comment on others blogs. You can learn a lot through reading the blogs of others.
You may also want to take this time to reconnect with an old friend. Send a message on Facebook, through email, or through a handwritten letter or card.
