Aging naturally used to be the only alternative to plastic surgery, but things have changed. Technology is evolving to offer more appealing alternatives, such as minimally invasive laser treatments and a variety of herbal supplements, creams and lotions. Those who don't want to undergo any type of surgical procedure, including laser treatments, are now giving greater attention to Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM.

Just as the term suggests, TCM is the form of medicine traditionally practiced in China. The beliefs that serve as the foundation of this form of medicine were developed many years in the past, long before Western medicine became what it is today. Yet, these foundational beliefs remain in place and are still highly respected and followed by the Chinese people. Yet, TCM is gaining new believers from around the world as well.

Those used to receiving modern care in the Western world will typically embrace TCM as a supplement to their standard medical care. They may not understand all of the intricate beliefs of true Traditional Chinese Medicine followers, but they understand enough to make sure of high quality TCM herbal supplements to enhance their overall medical care.

This applies to those interested in slowing the process of aging as well. The Western answer to fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin is typically to cover up the outward signs. This includes going through surgery or laser treatments to downplay the appearance of lines and wrinkles or to temporarily tighten up the skin.

TCM approaches the aging process in a different manner. Like most things within the Traditional Chinese Medicine tradition, aging is combated from the inside out. Everything seen on the outside of the body is seen as representation of what is happening inside the body. Believers in the TCM tradition acknowledge that aging is a natural process that happens over time to everyone, but they also believe that the process can be slowed down.

Followers of TCM believe that adequate knowledge of what happens inside the body is essential to slowing down the natural aging process. Rather than just treating the outward signs and symptoms of aging, great care is given to figuring out what is happening inside the body at any stage of the aging process. Once the internal roots of the outward symptoms are identified, treatment is given to slow down those internal developments.

Thus, TCM gives inward treatments for aging rather than focusing just on the skin and blemishes appearing on the skin. It is believed that treating the problems on the inside will have a direct effect on what is seen on the outside. Skin problems are thus treated from within, typically through herbal supplementation and acupuncture.

Today, many people in the Western world use TCM to supplement anti-aging methods used by local medical providers and beauty product manufacturers. For instance, they may take supplement with Ginseng or Lingzhi to strengthen the heart and lungs which directly slows down the aging process. Yet, they may also go through laser therapy or use lotions and creams from the Western world, which are designed to get rid of lines and wrinkles.

The great thing about Traditional Chinese Medicine herbal supplements is that they can easily blend with Western medicine to create a well rounded beauty regime.
