Many people are familiar with a traditional steam sauna. However there is another option available that many people find to be a much better one than the traditional steam room. This option allows for people to enjoy the detoxifying effects without the high temperatures that only allow a person to remain in the room a limited time. Infared saunas offer a newer and better choice for many people.

A traditional sauna is great for short sessions. While they do have many of the benefits of high heat for the human body, they do not offer all the advantages of the infrared models.

In order for the traditional model to offer its benefits, it has to be heated to a point to cause you to sweat. According to physicians, this temperature should only be used for a maximum of twenty minutes. Otherwise, the high heat can cause problems for the body, including adding stress and strains to the heart.

Infrared heat is able to penetrate the human body to a point of almost two inches, while the traditional heat can only penetrate an eighth of an inch. This greater penetration means that it is possible to sweat when the temperature reaches 120 degrees instead of the 180 degrees required with steam. Since the heat actually penetrates the body, it produces a detoxifying sweat.

Today doctors may recommend the infrared sauna to their patients suffering from many different issues. The heat can help with controlling blood pressure, high cholesterol, weight loss, and inflammation. The sweat produced can help to remove pollutants from the body. The sweat produced can remove pollutants including mercury, lead, tobacco smoke, car emissions from the body for healthier living.

There are two popular styles of infrared sauna on the market today. The older technology IR sauna used ceramic heating elements while the newer type that use carbon heating elements. While carbon elements are better, the consumer will need to make the decision as to whether the advantages offered make the upgrades worth the money.

Ceramic heat rods are placed in the room in a strategic way to produce the heat needed. One of the disadvantages of ceramics is that they do not produce as even a heat as is available through the use of the carbon heating elements. This can produce some hot spots while also creating cool spots. In addition, some users have complained of getting near burns by accidentally leaning against one of the rods.

Carbon rods produce the heat in a more even method. This can do away with the so-called cold spots in the area. In addition, there is less chance of a burn or near burn that is possible when using the ceramic devices.

When considering purchase of a sauna, many people will find that the infrared saunas offer the best option. Persons with health problems are less likely to have the problems amplified by using this type of system. These devices are available in two different options, ceramic or carbon. Carbon offer a more even heat, but is more expensive.
