In Traditional Chinese Medicine, illness and disease is connected to an organ of the body in order to come to an appropriate treatment. It is believed that every organ inside the body is coordinated to a different emotion, energy, and taste. When outward symptoms are experienced, the nature of those symptoms will be matched up to the different properties associated with different internal organs. From there, an effective treatment can be ordered to restore balance to the organs seen to be causing the outward symptoms.

If you have ever shopped for TCM herbal supplements online, you may have noticed references to the different organs that different herbs are believed to strengthen or restore. These notes may not mean much to someone searching for a specific TCM herbal supplement they have heard will bring results for a specific medical condition, but they mean a lot to those who really understand the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Now that you understand the very basic method of finding TCM treatments for different medical conditions, it is time to consider how treatment is carried out for anxiety disorders in this system. Anxiety is clearly associated with the brain and thought patterns that are created by the individual. Rather than tying anxiety as a whole back to a specific organ, it is considered a distortion in thinking due to the misalignment of what someone wants or expects to happen and what may actually happen. The negative thinking comes in when things are not going as expected or desired in life and that brings on the physical feelings of panic or anxiety.

It is the symptoms of anxiety that are then related back to different organs. For example, many people believe fear is at the root of anxiety and panic attacks. Fear is associated with the kidney in TCM, so herbal supplements designed to strengthen and balance the kidney will often be given to people suffering from anxiety or panic disorders.

Yet, that is only one aspect of TCM treatment for anxiety. Since there is a heavy emphasis on the mental component of anxiety, treatments often brings in more of a spiritual or emotional element. For instance, many anxiety sufferers will be encouraged to meditate on a daily basis. The process of meditation is designed to calm the mind and body, but it can also help someone focus on calming anxious energies.

Acupuncture and massage can also be used in an effort to calm the body and bring a greater sense of spirituality to the sufferer. It is believed that those who are spiritually strong will not suffer from anxiety. So, while treating the assumed imbalance in the kidney, TCM followers will also focus on calming and balancing the mind. The kidney will likely be strengthened through the use of herbal supplements or teas while other methods are used to bring on emotional change.

If you or someone you know are suffering from anxiety or panic attacks, you can combine these TCM treatments with the treatments recommended by your doctor or psychiatrist. If you don't like the concept of meditation or find it difficult to still your mind, look for alternatives such as yoga and Pilates. Focus on going through the motions and getting the breathing down perfectly and you will get the same calming effects from these practices.

TCM herbal supplements can also be found online to help with anxiety, panic and other mental distress.
