When a life has come to an end, either by natural causes, disease, or an accident, it is then up to the family of the deceased to look at funeral homes and decide on arrangements for burial. Homes such as these offer several services to assist in a proper interment.

Even at this heart-rending time, seeking discounts and promotions is an acceptable thing to do. Costs can be higher than a family can afford, and the director of the home they choose will make every effort to make it affordable using any discounts they can find. The cost of laying a loved one away usually includes such things as a casket of ones choice, preparation of the body, a viewing for friends and family, and a graveside service, if being placed into a cemetery plot.

Many people do not want family members to make all of those choices, and they visit with funeral personnel before their death, making the arrangements themselves. Grief at the time of death will then not be made even worse by family having to decide upon the many details of a burial. The choosing of their own casket, lining fabric and color, and other things needed is done.

Several things must be done at the time of death. If the viewing of the deceased will be a few days away, embalming the body will have to take place. This calls for the removal of blood, and aspiration of organs, so that decay will not begin as quickly. If cremation will be a service chosen, embalming will not need to be completed, unless there is a need to delay the funeral and burial for more than just a few days. If cremation has been selected, the home will also furnish the container for ashes.

Services and visitation can be conducted at the funeral home or in your church. The director will take care of all movement of the person who passed away. Speakers are chosen by the family, from among family and friends. A guest book is available for the signature of those in attendance.

A big part of most funerals are the giving of flower arrangements, as a visible sign of sorrow in the passing of a loved one, friend or associate. These flower arrangements are sometimes quite large and overflowing with blooms, buds and greenery. These are placed in casket-enhancing spots, out of the traffic of folks walking past the deceased at the end of the service. Some families choose to have contributions to a charity made, in place of flowers being sent. This is an accepted practice.

Arriving at the graveside, a religious or secular officiator of your choice will conduct a brief ceremony. Many times, the wreath covering the casket will have carnations, or other small flower, studded throughout. These can be plucked from the wreath and taken with the grieving people, as a remembrance.

In some ceremonies, the casket is not lowered until after everyone has departed. A look at funeral homes and their recommendations of ceremony, may be helpful to those left behind.
