There are many different ways that women can stay healthy. As a woman it may be important to take the time that you need to understand how you can keep your body healthy for many years to come.

First, you want to make sure that you know yourself. Take time to understand how healthy or unhealthy you are so that you do not have an inaccurate view of yourself and what you need to do to make sure that you are healthy.

There have been recent studies that have shown that although some women may have a normal body mass index, they may still carry excessive body fat. Taking time to understand what is going on with your body can make a difference in how you take care of yourself.

Having your body composition analyzed can help you get to know yourself and your body better. When you want to have your body composition analyzed it may be easiest to find a bioelectric impedance analyzer.

More than likely your doctor's office or your gym will have one of these tools to help you understand your body mass index. Talk with your doctor or with a personal trainer about what is normal and what is healthy for your body composition.

If you find that you have too much fat on your body, find healthy ways to minimize your fat. Increasing your exercise and making your diet healthier can be great ways to get rid of excess fat that is on your body.

Even if you have excess fat on your body be sure to keep a healthy attitude towards your body. Do not hate your body or get too frustrated with yourself but learn to love your body and try your hardest to stay healthy at the same time.

Second, you should be sure that you know all that you can about your family's health history. Many health problems can be genetic and the health of your relatives can be pertinent to your health levels.

Talking with your relatives about their health situations can be very informative. Taking time to write down a list of questions may be intimidating but if you simply talk with a doctor about what you should be asking you may be able to get a comprehensive list.

As you are talking with your relatives you may even want to download the United States Surgeon General's Family Health Portrait. This can help you understand the importance of your health history and how to attain the information that you need.

If you are going to talk to your relatives schedule a time with them for a future time. Make sure that they are aware of what you will be asking and that they are comfortable giving you the information that you are asking for.

As you talk with your relatives you should be respectful of any struggles they are going through physically. Do not disrespect your relatives or embarrass them about a particular health struggle that they are expressing to you.

Third, take time to assess your cancer risk. When you want to assess what your risk is you can go to The American Cancer Society's Great American Health Check to answer some questions about your personal health and the health of your family.

Be sure that you are taking time to answer the questions honestly. Although it may be scary to figure out that you are at risk for cancer, you should be sure that you are open and honest with yourself so you can find out what you can do to avoid cancer.

After you answer the questions the American Cancer Society will provide you with a list of screenings that may be good for you to have done. Take this list seriously, if you are worried about cancer do not sit idly by.

When you go into your next doctor's appointment you may also discuss different health risks there. There may be some cancer risks that you expose yourself to without knowing that you are increasing your chance of getting cancer.

Make sure that you take the time that you can to figure out how to stay healthy as a woman. While you are assessing your current health you should be proud of the aspects of your life and of your body that are healthy.

Be humble enough to take some advice from the professionals around you. The more that you are able to learn about what you can do to improve the better off you may be in the long run.
