Having clean, blemish-free skin is like putting your best foot forward, no matter what setting or situation you might be in. But trying to tame and soothe sensitive skin can be an uphill battle, especially if you don't know the cause or how to correct the problem itself. I'll help you make an informed decision about how to treat your skin to get the best results.

If you're trying to use a skincare regime to block out acne, then you could be allergic to its active ingredients. Benzyl peroxide has extremely high incidences of sensitivity, probably because it's also used as a bleaching agent and chemically removes dead skin. It's very strong, and I personally recommend that everyone except those with severe acne avoid it, and then only at the suggestion of a dermatologist.

Salicylic acid is much gentler, but it can still induce redness or even chemical burns if you are allergic to aspirin or its related compounds, which is precisely what salicylic acid is. Be aware that a dermatological aversion to either of these mainstream acne treatments can develop spontaneously, so even if you have used one or both of them in the past, you can still suddenly notice a problem.

If your skin's reaction is serious, then you may want to either talk to a dermatologist or an allergist to get to the root of the problem and begin healing. Many people find the chemicals and preservatives in over-the-counter creams and washes to be irritating to their skin, so it's best to go natural.

Fortunately, it's becoming increasingly popular to leave out harsh chemical agents, so you shouldn't have a problem finding more organic skincare products in department stores, specialty shops, and on the internet. Goats milk soaps are delightfully nourishing, especially to skin that is on the dry side, and distinct ingredients can be added to address your specific concerns--like tea tree oil for acne.

But soap for sensitive skin doesn't have to be limited to those of the goats milk variety. Do, however, make sure your soap or face wash is free of fragrances or dyes, as these tend to aggravate sensitivity, though essential oils can be helpful in soothing, so you need to be willing to experiment a little. Many companies will give you samples to test out, so take advantage of that whenever possible.

Be careful of the cosmetics you wear, too. If you wear makeup often, it may be best to switch to natural mineral products, but again, you can experiment to find out what works. It can be difficult to deal with sensitive skin, but you will enjoy plenty of rewards if you persist.
