When couples decide to have more children after a vasectomy had been carried out, they just think of the best option available being a vasectomy reversal. They seem to be ignorant of the fact that not all cases turn up positive with Vasovasostomy failure rate standing at 14% and that of vasoepididymostomy at 40% .This should not discourage them because there are other fertility options available that can still work as well as a reversal that can still produce positive results so that you manage to get a child later.

Some of these options are below:

Sperm banking: This is one of the most reliable methods available that can be used in case vasectomy reversal has been proven to have failed. There are many clinics which offer this service just before a reversal since they feel that there can be chances of the reversal failing. The sperms harvested can be used for invitro fertilization. Storage of the sperms is affordable at only 500 dollars initially then half the amount annually.

In vitro fertilization: This is another option that one can opt for incase the reversal procedure fails. Another name for this procedure is microsurgical epididymis sperm aspiration. It is less costly than the vasectomy reversal procedure and the side effects associated with it are few. It is considered the next choice that a couple can use if the reversal does not succeed. Many couples however do not consider it since unlike the vasectomy reversal, this one is conducted in stages and is more intrusive and causes a lot of discomfort. If the first attempt fails no more attempts might be made. Rarely do those trying out this option conceive during the first time but if one is lucky and she conceives then she will pay less than 10000 dollars. There are also chances of having a miscarriage and if this happens you are to repeat the procedure from the first stage. The procedure is carried out by having a ultrasound scan carried out on the woman, injections and laparoscope.

Therapeutic Donor Insemination: This is performed if the sperms of the man are not healthy enough to fertilize the egg. Sperms of a donor are used to fertilize the woman's egg. Although this procedure is not complicated, there is the dissatisfaction of knowing that you are not related to the child by blood. After the appropriate sperm is selected, artificial insemination is carried out by being placed in the woman's cervix or in the uterus when she is fertile. This procedure however has quite a low rate of success recorded at only 25%.

Intracytomplasmic Sperm Injection. It is the same as invitro fertilization but in this case the egg is first fertilized outside the uterus before being introduced into the uterus.

Vasectomy reversal; there are more chances of succeeding in this method despite the fact that some failure rate is recorded which is not high. Failure rate can result from the formation of a scar tissue after the vasectomy procedure, which could have resulted due to passage of time. The shorter the lapse of time since the vasectomy, the higher the chances of succeeding. One can pay between 10000 - 15000 dollars depending on the location of the clinic and the reputation of the clinic coupled with the expertise of the doctor to perform the operation.

It is absolutely necessary to be aware of the fact that vasectomy reversal is not catered for by insurance in most of the states so you have to cater for it from your pocket.
