Health and medical industry are lucrative sectors since decades. Demand for medical technology and science has shown considerable progress over the past few years. This has also created a need for high levels of efficiency and perfectionism. Electric technology is always more convenient than manual pen - paper method. In order to get the work done at a greater speed and to maintain a high degree of accuracy, EMR is the ideal solution.

History of EMR

In the early 1960s, a physician named Lawrence Weed described computing records the electronic way. Weed maintained that a computer generated system of keep records would lead to a rapid development in the field of patient health and care.

Benefits of Electronic Medical Records in Medical Science

Electronic medical records enable conversion of data for various health care services like hospitals, nursing homes and other medical institutions. This makes organization of data easy and systematic. Existing records can be updated with just a click. A complete recording of treatment procedures as well the patients' health information can be maintained with ease. When data is right in front of a person in a systematic fashion, making a decision can become remarkably easy.

Another advantage that the EMR presents is the security of the data in question. Information stored on a paper cannot be protected beyond a limit; but, data stored in electronic machine can be made accessible only to the privileged ones. It is possible to lock the document with the aid of security codes. It is also easy to duplicate copies of a data stored electronically and stored in different locations. This way, the loss of data will be prevented.

With the passing of time, paper losses quality. It might become difficult to decipher letters after decades. When data is stored electronically, it will retain its quality over decades of years. Weeds implemented this in University of Vermont in a project called PROMIS.

The use of EMR also helps to leave the office organized and neat. Imagine your cabinet filled with paper files. Not only would it be difficult to locate information when needed, it would also make the office look clumsy. A messy and untidy environment would not make a conducive working condition. The improved environment will produce a positive attitude to work.

These records are made easy to understand and help to prevent illegible prescription. It saves time; rather than spending hours seeking a particular file amidst a host of other documents, a single command can help locate the needed file. More time can be allocated to work; this will help to increases time apportioned to development and research.

The advantage of keeping electronic records goes beyond the ease and comfort that comes with it. It helps to save time and reduce the stress and workload. It helps in missing up patients' records and prescriptions.

The time save can be used to relax with love ones. Attention can be shifted to spending time to staff members; thus, building a cordial relationship. Happy workers mean happy customers, more effective workers and a peaceful environment.
