The application of Chinese remedies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is based on years of Oriental tradition in the treatment of individual symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating and constipation rather than considering IBS as a single "hold-all" condition as is often done in western medicine culture. The third is deficient type constipation usually reserved for the old, weak or infirm, and often treated with "Benefit The River Powder", a traditional herbal preparation.

- Chinese Remedies For Diarrhea Relief

As in the case of constipation, the Chinese recognise three different types of diarrhea and have herbal remedies to treat each one of them. Excess type diarrhea is typical as a result of eating contaminated food, and is quickly relieved with "Huang Lian Su". Deficient type diarrhea results from stress, bad eating habits or inadequate food preparation, and a prolonged course of "Shen Ling Bai Zhu Pian" helps relieve this problem. The third is mixed type diarrhea, which may signify an underlying serious condition such as Crohn's Disease, and should not be self-treated.

There is no doubt that Chinese remedies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome have been proven over centuries however, for those raised in a western medicine culture adoption of these remedies may require a leap of faith.
