There are many people that want to use a treadmill for their exercise. When you are running on a treadmill you may find that you are quickly wearing down the strength that you have in your knees or even your ankles and hips.

There are a lot of people that cannot run on a treadmill because of the joint pain that occurs when they do. As you feel pain on a treadmill you should make sure that you understand how you are going to change your workout.

When your body starts to feel pain you want to change something in your workout. Pushing through pain on a consistent basis can hurt your body and end up leaving you with permanent damage to very important parts of your body.

You want to make sure that after you feel that pain you know that you can change your workout and still get great results. Take the time that you need to change your workout to be sure that you are working your body hard without hurting it.

If you start to feel pain in your joints you may want to utilize the incline on your treadmill. Walking on an incline can be a great way to give your body the needed exercise without hurting your joints.

When you are running there is a lot of force that is exerted on your joints. You have to make sure that you understand that when you are walking you will not be exerting as much force on your knees.

First, when you step on the treadmill you want to put your feet to either side of the belt. This way, your feet are not touching the belt and you can gauge what speed is going to work the best for your walking pace.

You want to make sure that you understand how you are going to find the right pace. Some people walk to fast for their body and end up straining their body while others walk to slow and do not exert enough energy.

Adjust the speed until you are walking at a quick pace. The pace will be different for each individual and you want to make sure that you find the pace that will work the best for you and your body.

When you are finding the right pace you will want to be sure that there is no incline. After you find the right pace you will then want to choose a very low incline to start your workout with so that you can get used to the incline.

While you are on the treadmill you do not want to hold onto the rails with your hands. You are able to burn more calories and get a better workout when you pump your arms as you are walking on the machine.

Make sure that you take the time that you need to be sure that you are pumping your arms throughout the entire walk. As you pump your arms you will be sure that you are burning more calories than if you did not.

Only keep the incline at a low incline for the first ten minutes. This will serve as your warm up and will allow your muscles to get all of the blood that they need flowing through them before you start to exert too much energy.

After you complete your warm up you will want to increase the incline. Continue increasing the incline until you get to the highest point that you can walk without grabbing onto the rails on the machine.

You want to be sure that you are leaning forward and pumping your arms throughout the time that you are walking. Be sure that you are keeping yourself moving and keeping your momentum while you are walking.

As you are walking on the treadmill you have to be sure that you are taking the time that you need to push through a good workout. At first the walk may be easy but as you stay on the machine at an incline you should start to feel the workout.

You want to be sure that you hit your target heart rate while you are walking. Take the time that you need to be sure that you are hitting your target heart rate for at least thirty minutes throughout your workout.

Being on a treadmill does not mean that you have to wear out your joints. Take the time that you need to be sure that your workout is good for your body.
