Going to the dentist used to be a horror for adults and children alike. These days, with the advances in anesthesia and dental care, with the home care improving beyond what even our grandparents dentists could do for them the fear and horror have been reduced for adults visiting a dentist office. For children, however, the phobia is still very real, and it is not even rational, in most cases. This is something that can be avoided, however, with a very good, child oriented dentist.
The dental choices in Atlanta are pretty wide, though, so finding the right dentist for your child can be a very difficult endeavor. A dentist whose office is wide open may be a little intimidating for an adult, having their mouth exposed to all the other patients, but sometimes for children, that is more comfortable. A dentist who keeps stuffed animals in the children's rooms, not just for them to play with, but also for them to hold onto while they are in the dentist chair probably has some experience with kids. A dentist who has put some of their earnings into a movie system that includes glasses with a Heads Up Display (also known as an HUD) so the child or patient can watch a movie, thereby distracting them from what is going on in their mouth, has not only a great way of dealing with the phobia of dentists, but an incentive for children to even want to go and also to sit still.
These are not the only things that should be looked for in an Atlanta dentist for children. There is also bedside manner and how they handle their patient's teeth. There is no right way for every person, so going in for a first check up and evaluating how the patient deals with your child in particular, how they talk to them, how they answer questions and calm them down, how gently or deliberately or quickly they handle the teeth, how thoroughly they explain proper home dental care and the consequences of not doing that to your child are all things that can say whether or not you have the right dentist so your child does not throw a tantrum every time you show up at the office.
Take some time and look at the different dentists available to find the perfect one to keep your child's teeth the pearly whites they should be.
