Moving into a new community can be exciting, but it leaves you with plenty of things to worry about. It often means starting a new job, having your kids go to a new school, and having to find a dentist and a doctor that you are willing to trust with your family's dental and medical needs.
I know that my family has had a variety of experiences relating to all of these areas. When my parents moved into the home where they are currently living, neither of them even had a job. I don't think I'd have the courage to purchase a new home without knowing that I would have a way to take care of myself, but my parents had faith, and everything worked out.
Before my parents moved into the home where they now live, my dad was in the military and because of that I had the opportunity to attend a lot of different schools. Some of my experiences were a lot more positive than others, but luckily I'm pretty resilient, and was happy to make new friends and learn as much as I could wherever I was.
As far as finding good quality dental care goes, it's been a struggle at times. We had a fantastic dentist growing up, and the one that I see now is very kind, but I'm not convinced that he is as thorough as some others.
Even though I do my best to take care of my teeth, it's always seemed like making a trip to a dentist appointment was synonymous with receiving a lecture on all the reasons why I need to be more diligent with my tooth flossing habits.
My current dentist is really quite flattering. He always tells me that my teeth look great, but to be honest, it kind of concerns me that he doesn't give me my semiannual lecture on the art of flossing when I go in to see him.
The search for a good doctor can present some stresses of its own. It can be scary to put your health in the hands of a stranger. That's why I think it's important to ask neighbors, family, and friends if they have any recommendations.
When you move into a new community the last thing you want to worry about is the stress that comes from knowing that you need to find a dentist or a doctor. Get recommendations from friends and neighbors that you feel like you can trust, and then let yourself bask in the excitement of beginning a new life in a new community.
