Now that I wear glasses I wonder how many people there are driving around practically blind on the same roads as me when they should be scheduling an appointment with an optometrist in Plano.
I didn't even realize that I needed glasses until I went to get a new driver's license after moving to a new state. The first surprise I had when I went to get my license was that I had to wait in line for four hours before I got to talk to anyone. My next surprise was that the vision test that I assumed would be easy to pass, was a bit more challenging than I had expected.
I made an appointment with a local optometrist, and he explained to me that he could give me a prescription for glasses, but that my vision wasn't actually bad enough that glasses were legally necessary for driving.
Since the doctor didn't seem to think that glasses were an essential part of my life, I decided that I didn't want any, but my sister who was with me said I should at least try on a few pairs to see what they looked like on me.
Well, I found a pair of frames that I thought were really cute, and the next thing I knew I was ordering a pair of glasses. I really got them for more of a fashion statement than anything else, but now that I'm accustomed to having them I can definitely tell the difference.
Since my eyes aren't too bad, I usually don't wear glasses unless I'm leaving the house. That way, if I'm driving in an unfamiliar area, I can read all the signs. It's also nice to be able to see enough details on people's faces at the store that I can find my husband again if we get separated at Walmart.
The reason that I feel concerned about blind people driving around on the same roads I am is because the doctor told me that it wasn't legally necessary for me to wear glasses while I drive.
Now that I wear glasses, it's really obvious to me that I shouldn't drive around without them, and I bet there are a lot of other people who didn't have a stylish pair of glasses entice them enough to keep them from driving around blind without them.
My recommendation to anyone who might be in a similar situation to the one I was in before I got my glasses is to see an optometrist in Plano. Then if they find out they have any problems with their vision they should get some nice glasses so that they won't be endangering the people around them.
