Medications are a priority to keep the elderly in good physical condition. This is not a difficult task. All that is required is administering medications as specified. Meal preparation is another fairly common area with your loved one eating meals along with the rest of the family. When your family member is ambulatory, you can take them for doctor visits; to see an old friend; have their hair done; or just to go for a ride.
The elderly are often confused when taking care of monetary issues. You may want to speak with them about becoming a Power of Attorney. You can help them reach financial decisions and make out checks for anything they need to pay or purchase. This is not a job to be taken lightly because a Power of Attorney is legally responsible for these monies.
Senior home care can be an exhausting position to put oneself in but when you are prepared it can be an easy transition to make. Take advantage of care givers and don't allow yourself to feel that you are responsible for all their needs. You must take care of yourself. Keep in mind that elderly parents love their children. They do not want to see you giving up your life for their care.
