Do you think that you have abnormally dry skin? We are told that our bodies have to have eight glasses of water a day, but how many of us drink this amount? Most of us are lucky to drink that many in a week. As we get older our taste for water can drop. So this means that we drink even less than a young person. If you are female and at the age of menopause, your bodies water level will already be starting to drop. When you get sick and your doctor puts you on some medications, these might cause you to become dehydrated. If you do a lot of exercise and sweat a lot, your body will lose a pound of water for every 16 ounces of sweat your body loses.
You can lose water many ways. Some signs of this are thirst, fatigue, headache, dry nasal passages, and dry creaked lips. These signs can come from fever, a stomach virus, or diarrhea. Dehydration can hit small children and older adults faster than older children or young adults. The best way to help prevent this is to drink as much water a day as possible. If you do not like to drink the water out of your house hold pipes, then you might want to put a good water filter system on your faucets. This water system will remove all of the nasty chemicals that might still be swimming around in your water. If you want to see these particles, you can put some water in a glass and hold it up to the window.
In seniors, this can be worse because their skin becomes thinner with age. So when they get sick they are more prone to lose water pretty quick. Their medications can be another cause. As we age, our water levels in our bodies become lower so our chances of having dry skin increase. Burn victims are another that can suffer from dehydration as their water will seep out of these burns.
If you happen to get burned, try to make sure that you keep this area moist so that you do not lose water. If you happen to be out in the sun for long periods of time, make sure that you have enough lotion to keep your skin moist and drink plenty of water. If you get sick, try to make sure that you drink more water or juice and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Stay away from coffee or tea unless it is decaffeinated. The best thing is to drink pure, clean water.
