Many people might not know this, but our bodies are made up of 50 to 60 percent water. This is one reason that doctors tell us to drink so much water. Our bodies lose water every day in many ways. If you sweat a lot, you lose one pound of water for every 16 ounces of sweat you lose. When this happens, your body basically starts to dry up. Your skin might become dry and itchy which could make you scratch so hard and so bad that you could tear your skin. The older we become the less percentage of water our body holds.

Most of our caffeine drinks like the coffee, tea, or even the sodas that we love, can cause us to dry out. If you get sick and start running a fever, try to stay away from these drinks unless you use decaffeinated ones. The best thing is to try to change your eating and drinking habits. You need to try to drink as much water as you can. Most people really do not drink enough water, so if you happen to be one, do not try to gulp a lot of water at once. You could buy bottled water and sip on it as much as you can all day. If you are doing this at work, you should refill your 12 ounce or 20 ounce bottle several times a day.

Eat more fruits and vegetables each day as these are high in water content as they are also good for you. If you happen to go on a diet to lose some weight, make sure that you drink water. As we are trying to lose the weight, we exercise and we sweat. This takes water from your muscles every where in your body. The more water your body loses, the more aches and pains you have. This is why it is so important to replace the water you lose. Young children and older adults are the groups that seem to lose their water volume the most especially during an illness.

This could be some of the reasons we lose our teeth and hair too early in life. This could be why your hair turns gray so early in your life also. We have brought this problem on ourselves and we need to change. You do not need to change all of the things you do every day, but the more water you drink, the more you will clean out your body and help it mend itself. We need to teach our children about the good things water can do for their bodies. If you give your children sodas, give them this as a rare treat and not as a replacement for water.
