Hatha yoga is particular type of yoga which focuses on the shatkarma, which is the purification of the physical as leading to the purification of the mind and of the vital energy. Basically Hatha yoga is the form that most people associate with the term yoga altogether, and it is mainly practiced for mental and physical health, and vitality reasons.

As well, in the Indian tradition, Hatha yoga is considered as being one of the four main traditions of Tantra yoga in fact, and this is because Hatha yoga is primly based around the concentrating of the practice of postures and breathing control in order to energize the subtle channels in a person's body. The basic objective of this form of yoga then is obviously to remove the obstacles in one's life in order to be able to address the further steps that need to be considered.

There are basically two essential objectives in regards to the exercising postures of Hatha yoga: the first being that in order to practice any real meditation, a person needs at least one posture in which they can be perfectly comfortable for a longer period of time, and that the more postures that one can master, then the better basis for developing inner mediation techniques; the second is that in regards to bringing health and energy to the body and mind and by opening the nadis.

Basically this type of yoga is an excellent place to start if you are new to the idea of yoga altogether, and yoga in general was designed to be a path to spiritual enlightenment, and to bring together that of mind, body, and spirit, and to truly awaken oneself overall.

Regardless of which form of yoga you decide to go with, or whether you are a novice or a seasoned expert, the most important thing to remember is that of the basis of yoga in itself; the purpose of yoga is to not only gain a more healthier physical aspect to your life, but also to spiritually awaken the body and mind and to incorporate as many spiritual aspects as possible without being overbearing.

The best part about yoga is that it can be done by practically anyone, regardless of their age, health, or fitness level. Not only that, but yoga can be incredibly fun and enjoyable, and even if you have been practicing it for years, you do not need a high level of expertise for any of the methods or positions.
