Many moms, camp directors and anyone else who spends a lot of time around children often wonder if there are any effective ways to prevent head lice. The answer to that is, yes, there are effective ways to prevent head lice. In addition to doing things like making sure the children aren't sharing hair bows, brushes, towels, hats, pillows, etc, you can buy sprays and shampoos that help lessen the chances of getting head lice. Summer camps are crawling with children of the perfect ages to spread head lice from place to place. Take the necessary steps to protect your child from head lice so they may continue to enjoy their summer!
Head Lice Prevention Shampoos and Sprays
Tea tree oil shampoos help prevent head lice. This shampoo is all natural and gentle on the hair and scalp. Even though it is chemical free, lice cannot tolerate it. Shampoos like this may not make your child immune to lice entirely but it may help ward off adult lice your child comes into contact with. Bunk spray, helmet spray and fabric spray will help keep head lice away and most brands will kill adult head lice and nymphs.
* Bunk spray, helmet spray, and fabric sprays would all be great products for summer camps to invest in. These sprays are all 100 percent natural. They do not contain harsh chemicals like other sprays do, and they are quick and easy to use.
* Helmet spray is a great idea for summer camp. Those helmets are used by multiple children daily. Direct contact creates the biggest risk of transferring lice from one head to another.
* Fabric spray may be used on clothing. Don't spray in or near your child's face. Read all labels carefully before using any product on your child's clothing or bedding.
Head Lice Treatment
No product can guarantee that your child will not come home from summer camp head lice-free, but it is worth a try. In the event that your child does bring home unexpected guests, make sure you get a good product that will kill the adult lice as well as the eggs. A tea tree oil shampoo will also help get rid of the lice, among a slew of other products that are on the market. While some persons recommend treating children once they come in contact with someone who is infected, not everyone agrees that this is necessary. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not support treating someone if they only came in contact with affected individuals.
Head lice treatment varies greatly. The most commonly used method is to wash the hair of the infected person with a shampoo specially made for this purpose. After shampooing, the hair is combed using a lice comb which helps to remove the nits (young lice). This can be a rather painstaking process but it is important. One major problem with treating head lice is the improper use of the recommended treatment. This includes stopping before the recommended time. Failing to ensure that nits are removed completely from the child's head is also an issue.
