The people who have smoked cigarettes part or most of their life, will begin to see what they have done to their lungs at one point or another. Many people who smoke try try to still be active and are not what you might call a stay at home people. They want to enjoy getting out on the weekend for some fun. When you have smoked for so long that you are experiencing serious signs of shortness of breath, then you have already damaged your lungs to the point that weekend fun has now become a drag.
Take these scenarios for example. An amateur softball player that smokes, male or female, that has smoked for about ten years or longer, will play in softball games for the season. Over the last few years you could say age is catching up to this person, but it is likely cigarettes instead. They used to be the best on the team, but the last couple of years their hustle on the field has became a struggle to keep up with the everyone else. Non smokers on the team keep trying to get this person to quit smoking, but they do not want to hear it.
More examples of outdoor people who have let cigarettes interfere with their joyful pass times would be those who love to hike, mountain climb, ski, run, workout, or even get outside and play games with their kids. Smoking cigarettes will eventually curtail all of these types of activities because the stamina the body used to have will now be limited because of the years of smoking. It is sad to see an active person lose their ability to stay active because they have handicapped their own body.
This is what almost every smokers goes though after using cigarettes for so many years. The oxygen level is so low in their lungs, they do not expand the way a normal person who does not smoke cigarettes do. Doing any kind of physical activity that you may want to do on the weekend or in your spare time, a smoker will eventually realize that doing this type activities will become a lot less enjoyable because of the lack of oxygen from smoking.
There is still hope that people who smoke can regain much of their old stamina and ability to participate in activities that require physical endurance if they would just stop smoking now. The body can begin to heal itself and some people who quit will begin to the results of quitting after only a few days. The longer they go without smoking, the better they will feel physically. The mental stress from quitting might stick with them for a few weeks, but the sacrifice will be well worth the end results.
