These few simple tips will help you to increase your metabolism which will cause your body to burn more calories and help you shed those pounds.
#1 Don't Skip Breakfast
Breakfast is the meal that gets your metabolism started and helps prevent your binging as the day progresses. A cup of coffee is not breakfast because the caffeine and added sugar may give you an energy boost and suppress your appetite for a little while but will backfire into severe hunger as the day progresses. This will make you more likely to overeat or snack later in the day. Breakfast needs to include complex carbohydrates like whole grain along with some protein and fat (low fat yogurt or milk). This will keep your energy levels even and hold off your hunger pangs throughout the day.
#2 Eat more often
Try to develop the habit of eating smaller meals every three to four hours or at least four times a day. This frequently stabilizes your blood sugar and prevents your blood sugar from dropping and making you want to eat a lot at times other than meals. With a steady blood sugar you can control your appetite and keep your metabolism higher. The higher metabolism helps you to burn off the calories.
#3 Eat protein at every meal
Protein helps to reduce your appetite, it takes more energy (thus burning more calories) and time to digest. This makes you feel full longer than if you eat only carbohydrates. Research has shown that eating more protein can help you lose weight without cutting calories. Some protein possibilities you can try include turkey on whole wheat, hummus and pita, vegetarian chili and fruit or nuts.
#4 Hold off on snacking
We frequently confuse feeling tired with hunger and grab a quick snack for energy which does not help and makes you feel more sluggish. If you are feeling tired try a quick 15 minute walk to boost your energy instead of the snack. This will raise your heart rate and make you feel more energized. Follow up with a tall glass of cool water.
#5 Consume enough for your body's needs
Eating too little slows your body's metabolism the same way eating too infrequently does. If you want to lose weight, do not slash your calories too drastically. Your body will interpret this as starvation and decrease the amount of fat it burns. Instead, cut out some of the extras in your diet - things like soda, juice, packaged goods or candy. Processed foods tend to be high in fat and calories and low in vitamins, minerals and fiber.
