Today, there are more people smoking cigarettes than ever before on record. The increase in smokers has risen not only in the United states, but across the world in almost every country. If this was a disease that would kill people if inhaled into your lungs just once, you would probably not see anyone smoking cigarettes, period.

Cigarette makers know this is not a disease that will kill you immediately, and not necessarily one that will kill you quickly, but eventually it will shorten your life. The health damaging affects of cigarettes is known across the world. They are bad for the heart, lungs, arteries, kidneys, stomach, throat, mouth, and more besides. These are just the plain and simple facts about smoking. Detriment to the health from smoking cigarettes has been researched for many years in the past and been proven to be harmful to our planet an environment.

With all the proven facts about cigarettes and the damage that is being done on a daily basis to people lighting up, you would think that all of those that smoke would find a way to quit. In many states, the government has stepped in to eliminate tobacco smoking in public places where people are present because the majority of people do not smoke and do not wish to be exposed to second hand smoke. Smokers have already been excluded from smoking in almost all restaurants, businesses, hospitals, and government facilities. This law went into effect a few years ago in some places, but has it been successful in cutting the number of people that smoke cigarettes any at all?

The recent numbers say no, not at all, if anything the use of tobacco smokers have increased not decreased. The government will probably never do anything about this seeing how the amount of taxes being paid on cigarettes makes our government billions each year. Other deadly drugs are outlawed by the government. Tobacco is not considered a drug and remains legal to buy even though it is deadly and it is a proven fact. The same government that outlaws marijuana, embraces the tax money they receive from tobacco and alcohol? How is this reasonable.

Perhaps if the government really wants people to stop smoking, they should outlaw tobacco growing the same as marijuana. At least it has been proven that marijuana has benefits for cancer patients, perhaps the same patients that got their cancer from smoking cigarettes. It is so ironic that the natural tobacco plant can be turned into the even more deadly cigarette by adding thousands of chemicals to it and sold legally and the helpful marijuana in its natural state is illegal to treat the nausea of a chemotherapy patient who got cancer because of cigarettes. Go figure.
