This is a reality for hundreds of thousands of smokers in the United States alone. Still smoking when they know that something is wrong with their lungs or at least the signs and symptoms are there. The symptoms of lung cancer can be shortness of breath to chronic coughing and wheezing, which are known results of smoking, but does this mean you have lung cancer? Do you still smoke cigarettes even though you are having such difficulty breathing?

The only real way to be able to tell if you are a victim of lung cancer is to have a chest x-ray done on your lungs. If you are like the 60 to 70% of Americans who do not have insurance, getting one done will take some persistence in going through some type of assistance program. This will only be just for an x-ray to be done. If you are a victim of cancer without insurance, then you are in for a big battle to get the help you need. This is a problem many thousands of Americas are faced with everyday.

The majority of people who smoke cigarettes do not have health insurance and are not able to have a regular check up done. This is why the cancer that could have been treated in its early stages of developing, gets to the point that it has spread to other parts of the body. Believe it or not, when many smokers who have been diagnosed with cancer, will still continue to smoke.

If you have been a smoker for many years who has not had a check up with your doctor, this would probably be a good of time to go the hospital for a visit and hopefully not a stay. Cancer can lay dormant in the body for a long period of time until it begins to spread. At this point it is normally to late to fight off the effects of cancer when it has grown though out the body like this.

There are other signs of cancer besides just the lungs, experiencing symptoms such as pain in your bones or lumps appear on the body could be an indication that the cancer has spread to one or more of the other organs in the body. Weakness of the arms and legs of the body, headaches, or dizziness may also mean that the cancer has spread further than just the lungs. If you are still smoking an even think cancer is in your body, stopping now and visiting your doctor now is what is needed if you want even a chance of surviving.
