Once your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, he or she will undergo various therapies and will be given numerous ADHD prescription drugs. But are these ADHD drugs effecting in curbing your son's hyperactivity?

ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a mental disorder that is usually diagnosed in overly active children and adults too. People with ADHD tend to be always on the go, daydreams and not listen when spoken to, interrupts conversations and hate waiting for their turns.

ADHD Drugs

There are various stimulants prescribed by medical specialist for ADHD. Here are some of them:

- Adderall, Adderall XR -A pill containing amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Adderall is sometimes referred to as "Amphetamine Mixed Salts".
- CONCERTA - (methylphenidate HCl) Concerta is one of the various ADHD drugs that contains the active ingredient methylphenidate.
- Detxroamphetamine - a generic version of the amphetamine Dexadrine
- Focalin XR - (dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride) an extended-release capsule
- Methylin (methylphenidate HCl chewable tablets) - contains methylphenidate as
its active ingredient.
- Metadate CD (methylphenidate HCl, USP) Another DDHD drug that has methylphenidate.
- Ritalin, Ritalin LA, Ritalin SR - the first ADHD drug to use methylphenidate as its active ingredient.

To Medicate or Not

All parents with ADD children want to help their kids be relieved of the ADHD symptoms. But many parents are still unsure whether to give their child stimulants or not.

Stimulants have different effects on every individual. Some ADHD sufferers may experience adverse side effects while others seemed more focused and their attention span increases. However, it is very important to know that all stimulant drugs prescribed for ADHD are related to illegal drugs. These includes cocaine, dextroamphetamine or street name "dexies", methamphetamine or street name: "crystal meth".

There is a safer way to treat ADHD and this is by homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic treatment is a more holistic approach in treating an ADHD child.

For a safer ADHD treatment that doesn't involve drugs of any kind, try natural herbal remedies . There are numerous herbs and botanical extracts that soothe an ADHD child:

Arsen iod - An extract that reduces temperamental outbursts, promotes balance, and reduces frustration that usually occur if the child is learning new skills.

Tuberculinum - a homeopathic remedy recommended for those who are in need of constant change, it is also a relief for irritability, feelings of discontent or destructive behaviour.

Verta alb - is soothing to the nerves, and is usually recommended for hyperactive children.

Hyoscyamus - reduced outbursts, restlessness and several hyperactive behaviours.
