Fire damage is definitely not confined to losses that you find in homes or other buildings. Fire damage can be to the body as well and these damages can often be very grave. Not only do the flames themselves harm the body, but the smoke that accompanies it will cause destruction as well. Fire can do damage to the lungs, skin, muscles, and more. The smoke can get trapped in your lungs and this causes the problems with your breathing. The smoke from the fire makes you feel like you can not breathe and you will be gasping for air. The best thing to do when you are in a burning building is to cover your mouth and nose with a cloth and stay close to the floor where the air might be clearer and crawl out in necessary. Standing up could cause you to be overcome with smoke and reduce your chances of staying conscious.
Fire can burn and scar you skin damaging its surface and the layers underneath. It can cause blisters to rise or it can be burned completely off the body. It can damage or kill the nerve in the muscles. It can even burn you right down to the bone and leave nothing there but an open wound and blood. Burns can be fatal enough to cause death even if you survive the fire. You can get many degrees of burns. There are first degree through sixth degree burns. The other risks from fire are the toxic gases that they can give off which can get in your lungs can it can harm you badly.
Burn victims that suffer only minor injuries are the lucky ones. The ones that suffer severe burns might have to go through years of skin grafts and surgeries in order to correct the damage. Sometimes the damage can only be corrected so much and the victim is destined to remain scarred for the rest of their life. Severe scars from burns can be a terrible thing to have to live with especially if they are on the face. Some people do recover from the burns, but the scarring can leave them emotionally crippled forever.
