Chances are you have experienced a headache at some point in your life. The majority of the time headaches are caused from tension in the muscles of the neck and head. Sometimes a sudden injury to the head (contusion) can cause headaches. If the headache is severe enough, it may be considered a migraine. Migraines are often isolated to one part of the head, like behind the eye. Light sensitivity, nausea, and odor sensitivity are associated with migraines. Often times, migraines are debilitating and require medical attention. They can interfere with your daily life and cause you to loose time with your friends and family. Sometimes, headaches come in clusters. Cluster headaches can last days or even weeks. While cluster headaches are not common, they are the most severe, and if you experience them, you know. Nothing is worse than a headache that won't go away. Often isolation occurs and your life suffers.
The majority of people use over-the-counter medication to relieve their headaches. However, if your headaches come back day after day, or over-the-counter medications are not helping, you may need to seek medical attention. Chronic tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches send people rushing to medical doctors, chiropractors and emergency rooms everyday.
If you have never tried a chiropractor you might be surprised by how well they work. I know I was skeptical. I get the worst kind of headaches: Cluster migraines. While these are extremely rare, I am one of the unfortunate people that gets stuck with cluster migraines 3 or 4 times a year. My migraines can last all month long. I often have to take highly addictive narcotics just to dull the pain enough to function. I have gone to medical doctors and emergency rooms more times than I can count, only to wake up the next day and have the pain to return.
Then one day, I went to the chiropractor with my friend. As luck would have it, I got a migraine right there in the office. Everyone knew. I could not hide my extreme pain. The chiropractor asked me a few questions and then asked if he could give me a treatment. He said he would do it for free. I had nothing to lose, so I went for it. He had me lay down on the table and a few minutes later my headache was gone! I was shocked. I really had not expected it to work. I had taken strong narcotics just to dull the pain and this chiropractor relieved the pain with no medication at all.
In essence, minor misalignment's of the vertebrae in the neck can cause normal tension to build up and cause headaches. When the vertebrae are aligned, the neck can support the head and the muscles of the neck are not strained. Chiropractors are specifically trained to adjust the vertebrae of the spine and neck. All chiropractors go through a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised clinical training as a part of 4,200 hours of schooling. Seeing a chiropractor is not only safe but also an effective means of headache relief.
