Do you have one cigarette smoker or more in your home? Have you made the rule of smoking outside and sticking to your guns? Many of you probably have not. You think that smoking in one room away from your children will keep them safe, think again. This smoke travels and it will not stay in this one room. If you go walking around this room with this cigarette in your hand the smoke will follow you and most likely flow out of this room. Children always want to be in the room with you sometimes on your hip so to speak.
This smoke will damage almost everything in your home over time from the ceilings to the floors, but most of all it will damage your children. It will get in your carpets causing them to begin to smell like an ash tray and even your clothes and bedding will start to smell like them. This smoke can cause the paint on your walls to become dingy and brown if it mingles with the damp smoke from your kitchen. If you were to find cobwebs around your home, you might be able to find them easier because of the smoke that is laying on them.
If you smoke while cooking, this smoke will mix with the moisture coming off the stove causing a sticky brown mess to collect on your walls. When this happens you will end up with a nasty mess to try to remove. If you plan on repainting in the spring, you will have to clean or wash these walls first as this smoke will mingle with your new paint giving you an off color. Smoke residue also stains your your furniture and your curtains.
The damage smoke does to the home is small in comparison to what it does to tour health and that of your kids. The only way to avoid exposing your children to second hand smoke is to never smoke around them and this means never smoking inside the home. If you must smoke, do it outside. The better solution is just to stop all together. You might live long enough to actually see your children grow up and maybe even your grandchildren. Smoking is one habit that you do not want to pass on to your children, because chances are if your children smoke, your grandchildren might very well smoke to. If you are going to leave your kid an example to follow, do not let it be smoking cigarettes.
