There are various developmental disorders afflicting some children that, if left untreated, may affect their early adult life. What are ADHD hyperactive and ADHD impulsive?

As these two symptoms are present where one has ADHD, there are no terms such as ADHD hyperactive and ADHD impulsive. ADHD has three types. It could be hyperactive-impulsive, predominantly inattentive, and combined.

Impulsiveness is not just predominant in kids. Even adults are prone to have impulsive behaviors at some times. Examples of impulsiveness include:

- Interrupting conversations or discussions
- Blurting out answers even if they are inappropriate
- Impulsively offering help and assistance
- Buying things even if they do not need them (or worse, on credit even if they cannot afford to pay afterwards)
- Quick decision making without thinking of the cost or penalties involved
- Failure to check details thoroughly
- Not considering alternatives and options

While being impulsive may be more of a negative connotation, it can also be a positive trait. Leaders are expected to have quick thinking capabilities and being on their toes all the time. There are certain situations wherein they need to think fast and make impulsive decisions based on gut feel.

Just like adults having impulsive actions, kids with ADHD have impulsive tendencies when you see them annoy others without thinking of the consequence that they might hurt them. More specific examples would be grabbing toys, food or things from other kids and temper tantrums.

It is scary, especially for parents, because they do not know the extent of impulsiveness of their kids with ADHD. Even if they are still kids, the fact that they are being exposed to a lot of things could leave parents worrying sick on how to even control tempers and emotions of their children.

How do we control impulsiveness?

Emotions are impulses and those with ADHD are more likely to have emotional outbursts. Their feelings are so unstable you sometimes do not know what they would do next. Impulsiveness is so much harder to control but there are ways to address it, such as:

- Letting your kids have outlets such as a place where they can write, play around without any limitations, dance and run around. This will shed off excess energies they may have and consequently release any pent up emotions in the process.

- Teaching children how to interrupt properly in conversations and the value of being polite in answering others.

- Showering them with love and attention but supervise them in such a manner that they will not be too babied and not treated as matured (because they would tell you they are still young).

- Setting up some sort of reward system for good behavior for them to be motivated to act better. It should also have a consequence scheme in case the child does something wrong.

- Getting treatment. While there are medicines available which control impulsiveness such as Ritalin, Dexedrine and Adderall, there are also natural alternative options.

Why choose natural treatments over the ones prescribed by doctors?

Prescription medicines are mostly expensive. While their efficacy is validated by your pediatrician, just like any other prescription, there are certain side effects. Some include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stagnant of growth, and nervousness.

These homeopathic supplements are safe, 100% natural and effective. They contain various herbs and plant extracts like Hyoscyamus, Tuberculinum, Arsen iod and Verta alb. These ingredients are actually known to reduce restlessness, over-excitability, constant stimulation, reduce temper tantrums, and sooth nerves.
