It's no mystery that smoking causes cancer. So much so, that as much as 70 percent of men who died of cancer in 2003 died a smoking related death. Alternatives to aid individuals to quit are available, but what is there for those who do not have the desire to?

A vaporizer, works by heating up plant material or essential oils to a certain temperature. This temperature is hot enough to release the active ingredients and aromas contained within the herbs in the form of vapor while staying well below the temperatures of combustion. The vapor can be delivered through the vaporizer in a number of ways subject to the particular design of that model. One of these methods includes the use of a balloon and valve system made from polyester or similar heat resistant materials.

The inherent benefit of using a vaporizer versus traditional smoking is enormous. The process of combustion itself and the extreme temperatures at which it occurs actually produces new chemical compounds which are known to be incredibly harmful to the user. One of the most notable harmful substances associated with smoking is tar. Recent laboratory studies have shown a reduction in tar by means of a vaporizer over traditional smoking as high as 99 percent.

Thus, a vaporizer can be used as a means to help a user quit smoking. These devices are able to release certain portions of tobacco including the addictive nicotine chemical while leaving behind many of the toxic parts, such as carbon monoxide (a known carcinogen). Thus, tobacco users are given a much safer alternative to gradually reduce their dependence on nicotine. Another advantage that a smoker has in using vaporizers as an aid is the fact that since they do not emit second hand smoke. Many harmful substances normally found in secondhand smoke are absent so nearby people won't be affected. Many herbs and their inherent properties can also be used in vaporizers. Chamomile, the exotic sounding yerba santa, and jasmine are just a few examples that all carry therapeutic benefits.

The concepts of Aromatherapy and vaporizers may be new to a lot people but it has already made a huge impact on the health market reaching out to millions of users and potentially saving lives. Vaporizers come in a large variety of shapes and sizes and the costs vary also. However, they all work off the same basic principle of heating plant materials to temperatures below spontaneous combustion. Whether it is used as a means to help a person quit smoking tobacco or as a healthier aromatherapy delivery device the benefits of this simple invention are undisputed.
