Allergies And Going Organic

Having been allergic to a whole lot of things for quite a while, and recently testing myself for food and chemical sensitivity, I can say that there's nothing more effective than going organic, when you can. This is especially true for chemical sensitivity. I changed to biodegradable laundry detergent, then the same for shampoo, soap, conditioner and toothpaste, and it's made a major difference.

Perhaps the biggest change was using the laundry detergent for the first time and washing bed linens with it. You get into bed and instead of sneezing or waking up all congested, it's a much more peaceful night. The liquid soap I bought at the health food store was also used as a shampoo and it worked great. It looks like dishwashing liquid and smells of oranges. There are many types of these products out there, and a lot are unscented, if fragrances also drive you up a wall.

A lot of the big box type of stores and smaller boutique Hawaiian themed grocery and wine stores, as well as the usual health food suppliers, have these organic items. Another bonus to shopping in stores that provide a selection of organic, natural and whole foods is that you can take care of the moral issues you may have with your food. These stores usually carry cage free/free range eggs, no veal, and meat that is usually free range and antibiotic free. Plus, they always have a large selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Most often, the prices are lower than you thought they'd be. They also have alternative foods like gluten free baking mixes etc.

All of this food tastes better, even the fast food items they have, than a lot of the food bought in regular supermarkets. But these stores, too, are devoting more and more of their space to natural and organic food, so you can really check them out. Organic food is kinder to the land than food grown with pesticides and artificial fertilizer. Another item that I've found useful in the change to a healthier lifestyle and that may be of interest, is a vaporizer. If you want to go organic and more natural with any herbs you ingest, then a vaporizer can do this for you. There is nothing more soothing than the scent of a soft lavender, or peppermint. And, it can help you quit smoking while eliminating any additional toxins created when tobacco burns. What could be more healthier than quitting smoking? And surely, not smoking tobacco will eliminate a whole bunch of allergens from your body.
