There must be good reasons for using a natural skin care cream, everyone seems to be doing so now, but what are they? And what exactly is "natural" anyway?

Last question first. What does natural mean when you use it in a skin care context? There is no really one single answer. No clear definition of what natural skin care really is. Despite the fact that there are many natural anti aging skin care creams and other products on the market.

Is there any difference, for example, between natural skin care products and other skin care products labeled as botanical, or organic, or herbal?

But whilst there is no single one definition of what natural means in this context that doesn't mean that it is meaningless. It just means that there isn't a single definition.

In this case I tend to apply my own definition. To do this you need to consider the reasons why there is any need for a natural skin care product. After all why shouldn't people just buy ordinary non natural skin care products?

The reason is simple. The traditional skin care products that you usually see on the shelves of the stores are made up of many ingredients that are manufactured. They aren't found growing in a tree or a plant, they are a synthesized chemical ingredient that a scientist somewhere has worked out performs a certain function.

And often these synthetic chemicals are very cheap to make.

Here's one to look at. There is a class of chemicals called Parabens that are used extensively in many products as preservatives. They are an extremely cheap preservative, but some consider that long term use of products containing Parabens could lead to cancer.

There's very many ingredients used in mainstream skin care products that are considered to be a risk to health from long term use. Chemical (and petrochemical) ingredients that many people don't want to be putting on their skin.

It's surprising just how many people are now turning to more "natural" or "organic" or "herbal" or "botanical" skin care products because they are scared of potential risks from use of products with strange chemical ingredients.

So from this information I can make my own definition. I consider a natural skin care product to be one which only uses ingredients that are found naturally somewhere and also which are known to be safe for human use. And there's another part to the definition.

Natural skin care products should work as well or much better than mainstream skin care products. (That's often not that hard as many mainstream skin care products don't work very well.)

Surprising though it may sound the best natural skin care products work better than mainstream products.

So as you can see there is no formal definition of what a natural skin care cream is. But that doesn't mean that there is no reason to use one. There are in fact powerful reasons to use one.

They're safe to use and they work better than the mainstream big brand skin care ranges.

But there's one brand that stands out as the best natural skin care cream on the market.
